Admin, please revisit Prestige

TwoRoosters has been asking about this for a long time. I looked at the Postseason History page and note that NYN has made the postseason during the last thirteen consecutive seasons. During this time, they have made nine WS appearances (three in the past five seasons), and won five WS titles (two in the past five seasons). While Boston and Detroit have been highly successful during that period, whatever calculation gives them a higher prestige makes no sense to me.

The prestige calculation should be addressed so we can then take another look at how severely it impacts free agent bidding. I would think players with lower leadership scores would care a lot less about prestige and more about the overall value of the contract. Thus teams should have a much more level playing field when bidding on free agents with lower leadership scores than they currently do.

And finally, the impact of one year bids should be a lot lower on younger players, who tend to look for long-term security, than on players closer to retirement, who are either chasing a ring or chasing max dollars.

I know that these issues are impacting the renewal of a number of owners in the KBL...and I imagine it is affecting other leagues too.

Thanks!

I think that is just a matter of opening up the window that the prestige is calculated on.

I agree, I think the leadership should only apply towards players that have been with team over a certain number of years. It doesn't make sense for someone with a high leadership to be with a team for 1 year and get a bonus. It should matter when a player has been with some amount of time (say 4 years) to show loyalty to the team (to get the full leadership bonus).

I also think the year cap for signing players should be removed. If someone wants to offer a player a 4 year deal for someone at age 35, they should be able to take that chance.

i am not sure the prestiege is a problem. however its calucalted, why is it a problem? if it comes from regular season wins, so be it? whats the difference? in a pay league, somebody might make the playoffs all the time in one division, while the team in the other division might win more games and have higher prestiege. this might happen because the other teams in the first case there are clueless and keep giving a playoff spot to this team. why should the other team, that wins more games, have to get lower pretiege because it doesn't make the playoffs as much?

(as far as how the players sign and length of contracts and all that, big whatever.)

(i mean, the difference between ny and boston and detroit prestiege is very small. how much difference does it really make?)

My point is not so much about the ASL, but in the overall way prestige is calculated and used (because of its impact in pay leagues).

It is a tough call. Some players like Mark McGwire and Matt Holliday come over to a team at the trade deadline and like the environment so much they take a below market deal to stay. Cliff Lee liked Philly so much, he spurned the Yankees and Rangers to return there, even after only playing there for a half-season and being traded away. But, I'd think younger players would look more for long-term security than for a one year deal, and would tend to do so as a last resort (i.e. on the final day of the FA period, as opposed to days 1-3, when they'd still look to sign a longer contract).
