Why would Abe pinch hit for consecutive starters, then....

after my backup catcher goes into the game as well as a different 1st basemen, i have no pinch hitters (2 starters were Red tired and wouldn't be in the game off the bench), then my relief pitcher has to bat to lead off the 8th with my team down 1 run 3-2.. my manager mode says leave 1 pinch hitter for a pitcher spot. I don't know but wouldn't mind knowing the answer myself. You are right in the middle of the knife fight for a playoff spot, so it's unfortunate.
