guys who should get into the hall of fame who are retired but are not yet eligable (this does NOT include Pete Rose)

Tim Raines (Expos)
Cal Ripken Jr. (Orioles)
Mark McGuire (A's)
Wade Boggs (Red Sox)
Tony Gwynn (Padres)
Roger Clemens (Red Sox probably even though he wants to be Yankees, unless he decides to play next year for the Astros)

anyone else? there are a few guys who were good but won't get in-
Jose Canseco (if he weren't such an asshole he'd have a chance)
Will Clark
Paul O'Neal

anyone else?

i think jose will have a chance. he had the first 40/40 season, and his career numbers are good, especilally since you consider the problems in the late part of his career.

i would say Jose is good enough, and I'm not sure whther or not I would put him in, but if he was a popular player that everyone liked like Cal Ripken was then he would get in, but since he's an asshole that no one likes it really hurts his chances.

Henderson is semi-retired and he is a first ballot guy (I guess he isn't really retired yet).

Does he have a contract yet?
I' love to see Paul O'Neil get in, but he probably won't, especially after retiring the same year as Gwynn and Ripken.

I don't want Jose Canseco within a fifty-mile radius from Cooperstown.... or Pete Rose, either.

he said O'neil was good, but not good enough for the hall.

is ozzie smith already in? i cant remember... i remember him retiring, so i just assume it hasnt been long enough for him to have made the hall yet...

I gotta be a homer in this HOF discussion, where's the love for Ryne Sandberg??
The man was the best second baseman of his generation, isn't that enough?
Although, I am pleased that the amount of votes he got has gone up, so it looks like he'll probably be making it in the future...

Joe Jackson can rot, he can be in the Hall of Fame when the rapture comes.

I've been there before. It's interesting stuff, and it's nice that those guys care enough to make a website for the cause. The fact is that Joe Jackson accepted money and had guilty knowledge of the fix. I don't care if he hit 1.000, when he took that money he knew what was going on, so therefore he was a conspirator.

Another issue I have with Jackson's HOF case is that he only had about 5000 career at-bats. As great as he was, that is an exceptionally low number for someone who wants to be in the Hall of Fame, and I damn sure don't think he deserves any credit for the years he would have played in the league had he not been thrown out.

Canseco doesn't stand a chance, he hit too few home runs, and after some good years he basically rotted away. It doesn't help the law problems he has had. He didn't even get to 500 home runs, didn't have a great average, and in the latter part of his carrer was no good at all. He stands about as much of a chance of getting into the hall as Pete rose does of being named Most Trustworthy person of the decade

Joe Jackson took money but didn't intentionally play bad (he screwed the gamblers). Still, he needs to stay out.

(even though Strat-o-Matic included him and Pete Rose in their Hall of Fame set.)

He had guilty knowledge, and he didn't come forward. Neither did Buck Weaver, for that matter. Whether Joe Jackson played well or not was pretty much irrelevant once he took the money that he knew came from gamblers who were attempting to fix the Series. We agree that Jackson shouldn't be in the Hall, but I don't agree that the fact that his record appears superficially good is any reason to excuse him in any way. No, Jackson isn't guilty to the same degree as Chick Gandil or Eddie Cicotte, but he was guilty enough, and isn't worthy of this "yes, but...." that always comes attached when you ask someone if Joe Jackson was guilty.

Cicotte might have a better HOF case than Jackson anyway, he has some nice stats...
209-148 in 15 years,
2.38 lifetime era, 14th all-time

but he has no nickname and no movies, so no one ever mentions him.

If he had not taken money and gotten banned for it, he would have played longer and probably would have gotten in.

Enough about Joe Jackson, who's already had enough ink wasted on him as it is. Some guys who haven't gotten nearly the respect they deserve from HOF voters:

Ron Santo
Keith Hernandez
Goose Gossage
Ryne Sandberg
Alan Trammell
Bert Blyleven

Besides the 6 that were originally mentioned by ME, plus Rickey Henderson, all of whom except for Raines are mortal locks, those are the most worthy candidates who haven't or maybe aren't going to be elected to the Hall in my opinion. For the record, I believe all 6 of the guys, including Raines, are worthy Hall of Famers. Canseco and Clark fall just short, and O'Neill isn't really that close to meeting Hall of Fame standards.

They should do a revote, only this time take Paul Molitor off and replace him with Goose Gossage...

Alan Trammel... he played for the crappy Tigers, and now he coaches the crappier tigers. according to the MVP voting of the people on this website, he is a definate NO!

Andre Dawson, Ryne Sandburg shoudl be in.

I'm undecided on whether or not to let gossage/sutter/ in.

I don't know about anyone else, but in my opinion if you're a corner outfielder with a .323 career on-base percentage, you'd better have some pretty overwhelming qualifications in other areas to be considered a Hall of Famer. Andre Dawson was, by all accounts, one hell of a guy, but there are a whole lot of guys who have better qualifications them him who are never going anywhere near the Hall of Fame.

On the other hand you have Alan Trammell, who is without a doubt one of the 10 best hitters ever to play shortstop, along with having garnered 4 gold gloves. He had the misfortune of playing before the game's offensive numbers exploded in the mid to late-90's, and of playing in Detroit, where it's virtually impossible to get into the Hall if you spend any amount of time there.

Dawson was a CF who won 8 gold gloves (i tihnk it was 8), not a corner outfielder.
