Someone at sportsline, apparently.

Well, I'm sure Red Light Curt knows who his sympathetic writers are.

Your assignment tonight, Duff, is to write "non-story" on the blackboard 100 times.

All I can say is that it's more relevant than internet access on an airplane.

Or is it?

At any rate, at least I didn't link you to the exciting Orioles news, namely:

"RHP Daniel Cabrera will be scratched from Friday's scheduled start in New York. Cabrera will undergo an exam to find a reason for the tingling feeling in his right elbow."

Tingling feeling in his right elbow? Maybe it's talent.

No, but you might wish he was. (It's Liz).

Liz has some possibility of having skill in the future. He was a top 9 prospect last year for the orioles...i think.

I dont even care, gonna kick ass either way.

Eh hem... Sorry, you said Saturday. Liz pitches Friday. Saturday and Sunday it's undetermined, who has a better record than anyone on the current Orioles staff, so--I'm feeling good about it.

Can I get a full refund for Erik Bedard?
Duff77

We put a big sticker on his forehead when we sent him to you: As is, no warranties, no refunds or exchanges. Look, he's only out 6 to 9 months with shoulder surgery. He'll be fine.

Here's the catch--he's arbitration eligible this winter, and he'll require a minimum $6 million salary. It's high unlikely the M's will want to pay him $6 mill to sit out half of '09, which means that he'll almost certainly sign elsewhere. In other words, we gutted our farm system for 80 meaningless innings.

God, I hate this trade.

Well, stop letting Ignite run your team into the ground.

Its not like Schilling is putting up any ideas that people don't know.

I thought that maybe Josh Howard had made another outrageous and indefensible statement with the title of this thread. I'm a little disappointed...

if he doesn't arbitrate, don't the Mariners just have to pay him? he has a contract, or not?

It hardly matters. If he comes back in the middle of 09 he'll throw about forty pitches and go back on the DL. Back when the O's fans on the other board I frequent were pushing to sign him, I was pushing to trade him ASAP, and this is exactly why. I knew he was damaged goods. One injury? Fine--you get another one within the next two years, you aren't worth the risk.

the thing is that Bedard was the ace that we needed. If he werent damaged goods, id be pissed about the trade. Our pitching is really terrible, and thats the difference between our team and a contender.

Except that...Bedard is not, and never was, an ace.

Solid pitcher, yes. But he's pitched a grand total of 1 CG, has never pitched 200 innings in a year, and currently has a career ERA of 3.81.

The word "ace" has a different connotation here in baltimore :/

and the innings pitched is a side factor of the injuries really. the ERA too (nagging injuries or whatever). when he isnt injured, he's a stud.
