Seriously, Manny is not worthy of being higher paid than every player in baseball, especially given his age. So why pay him more? If the Dodgers increase their offer they would only be outbidding themselves.

I would become a Dodger fan if they make another offer to Manny next week... for $24,000,000. And if he turns that down the next offer is $23,000,000. That would be awesome. My prediction is that he would sign for $24M.Seriously, Manny is not worthy of being higher paid than every player in baseball, especially given his age. So why pay him more? If the Dodgers increase their offer they would only be outbidding themselves.

Worthy has nothing to do with it. There's a player's value on the open market. That is the only thing there is.

Open Market situation is bad for Manny, a million good hitting bad defense corner outfielders. Manny shouldve taken the deal and gone back into the market next year.

Manny is 36 and coming off the mythical "carry the team on his back" half-season. This off-season is the time to cash in. It's not the per-year that he and Boras are trying to maximize, it's the guaranteed total.

I just dont think many GMs for legitimate contending teams are dumb enough to fall for the "carry the team on his back for half a season" thing anymore. So essentially he either needs to get a deal done with the mets, or he needs to take the deal with LA.

Rich Hill deal looks good for the orioles. He recovers from injury and plays well, you win, he doesnt play well, you dont lose much. Wiggington didnt look like too bad of a pickup either.

Yeah, I realize that. Obviously the chance for Manny to decline is substantial, but teams realize this. Honestly, I don't think Manny really gives a censored where he plays. The Giants have been rumored to be interested - if he goes there, everyone will wonder why he left a better situation in LA for a crappier one in SF, but I'm pretty sure all Manny wants to do is hit and make a lot of money.

Boras is obviously a very smart agent, and the thought is that he has another deal lined up that's better than what the Dodgers are offering. Manny will decline eventually, and he's going to lose money if he ends up having to sign a series of 1-year offers.Honestly, I don't think Manny really gives a censored where he plays. The appeal of someone like Manny to the theoretical bottom line (and the general good will that it engenders with your fans) can be difficult to pass up.

If I were a Dodger fan I'd rather have Bobby Abreu for 12 million and use the remaining money to get a trade done if the team was in the hunt at the all-star break.

BP said that Wieters had the best offfensive minor league season in the past 40 years (based off of rate stats). Pretty crazy for a catcher. Bill James Projection has him at .311/.407/.526 for next year. That couldnt possibly be the major leagues could it? That might be an MVP season for a catcher.
the other two projection system have some lower stats. .274/.352/.439 and .294/.373/.487... but still, could the orioles finally stop sucking soon?

He was awesome in 2007. Baseball prospectus PETOCA projections have him looking good. Fangraphs projections? not so much. i didn't mean here this season, nobody cares how good the kid can catch really. i meant on down the road, if the kid is going to be a great hitter, especially a great power hitter, why would they wear him out at catcher?
