I would become a Dodger fan if they make another offer to Manny next week... for $24,000,000. And if he turns that down the next offer is $23,000,000. That would be awesome. My prediction is that he would sign for $24M.February 03, 2009 at 04:50PM View BBCode
Worthy has nothing to do with it. There's a player's value on the open market. That is the only thing there is.February 03, 2009 at 04:52PM View BBCode
would $24 million be the highest paid?February 03, 2009 at 06:11PM View BBCode
Open Market situation is bad for Manny, a million good hitting bad defense corner outfielders. Manny shouldve taken the deal and gone back into the market next year.February 03, 2009 at 06:14PM View BBCode
Manny is 36 and coming off the mythical "carry the team on his back" half-season. This off-season is the time to cash in. It's not the per-year that he and Boras are trying to maximize, it's the guaranteed total.February 03, 2009 at 06:24PM View BBCode
Yeah, I realize that. Obviously the chance for Manny to decline is substantial, but teams realize this. I mean, if he wants multiple years, he is going to get far less per year becuase everyone knows he will decline, if he goes another season playing well, he may well get an even bigger contract next season.February 03, 2009 at 06:29PM View BBCode
two thingsFebruary 03, 2009 at 06:40PM View BBCode
Boras is obviously a very smart agent, and the thought is that he has another deal lined up that's better than what the Dodgers are offering. Manny will decline eventually, and he's going to lose money if he ends up having to sign a series of 1-year offers.February 03, 2009 at 06:42PM View BBCode
also, you would think SF wouldnt want an aging power hitting corner outfielder with bad defense and a bad clubhouse presence.February 03, 2009 at 06:44PM View BBCode
The appeal of someone like Manny to the theoretical bottom line (and the general good will that it engenders with your fans) can be difficult to pass up.February 03, 2009 at 06:47PM View BBCode
i believe he will end up with the yankees, two seasons, for about 50 million, hit cleanup or fifth, and knock in about a kazillion runs.February 03, 2009 at 06:48PM View formatted

Seriously, the mets are the only team dumb enough to do this boras deal. Although i guess the giants arent too smart either.February 03, 2009 at 08:42PM View BBCode

Rich Hill deal looks good for the orioles. He recovers from injury and plays well, you win, he doesnt play well, you dont lose much. Wiggington didnt look like too bad of a pickup either.

He was awesome in 2007. Baseball prospectus PETOCA projections have him looking good. Fangraphs projections? not so much. Clearly if he doesnt overcome his injuries, he isnt going to be anything, but he has a lot of potential to be good.February 03, 2009 at 10:26PM View BBCode
they going to be looking for something to catch, i guess they have something coming in the minors. they aren't going to let that kid catch for long, 1st base, dh, anything but catcher.February 03, 2009 at 10:27PM View BBCode
because, you know, he might make the all star game. and some clown like pete rose will come barrelling in there and wreck his career.February 03, 2009 at 10:31PM View BBCode
Joe Mauer catches. If he can do it competently, he'll do it in the majors.February 03, 2009 at 10:34PM View BBCode
(You know what would be funny? If one of the players on the "Player to be Named Later" list in the Hill deal was Matt Wieters.)February 03, 2009 at 10:37PM View BBCode
that would be funny.
