Determined to get the victory, Brooklyn starting pitcher Vin Smith pitched 11 scoreless innings, giving up 6 hits, walking 2 and striking out 11. He managed to pick up the win after Brooklyn scored the lone run of the game in the top of the 12th. Tom Comer worked the bottom of the 12th to preserve Smith's hard-earned win.
