Boston Muscling into Playoffs?

March 02, 2004 at 04:18PM View BBCode

I've been struggling alllll season long in 6th place here in the AL, with so much competition for first place. I've been withini striking distance at no more than 12-15 games at one point, and now late in the season I'm only 5 games or 6 out of first, and I'm still winning! Surprise surprise. :P Hopefully with close to 300 homers by the end of the season as a team, I just may. We'll just have to see. :D

And apparently not afraid of the message board curse... :)

It's been a brutal race. Here we are approaching September and six of eight teams are still contending! I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like it...

Yes, a TRUE Red Sox Fan doesn't believe in all these silly 'curses' going around. :)

This is a pretty crazy single season league... I can't believe I'm in first when my best starter has an ERA barely under 4!

And the guy you traded me for that pitcher just went down with a 55-day injury while I'm in a tight pennant race. AAUGH!!!!

Whoop. Dang... that's brutal. :-/ He was playing decent for you too. Well, who knows, maybe you'll find someone who comes through in the clutch. Good luck!

It's a three-way tie for first now with Baltimore winning 8 of their last 10... technically, everyone in the AL is still in contention except Detroit and KC.

Wow... and now the NL wildcard spot is up for grabs, too...

Geez... I was at one point in 7th place, and now with 8 games to go, I have a legitimate shot at the playoffs, as the last two series I play are against teams against whom I've won the previous two apiece. If that last sentence makes any sense...

Go, Mississippi! (If you're a fan of John Wayne, you'll get the joke. :D)

AAUGH! Getting down to brass tacks and I hit a 3-game losing streak to fall 3 games back of the lead!

I'm gonna have a heart attack before this season's over....

Well, I finally stopped the losing streak at 5, and am now 4 games back with 4 left to play. I'm only one back for the wild card, though...

Fortunately, the schedule is kind to me, with my last three games against Detroit. Boston is still it, but on the edge of elimination. Brooklyn is one win waya from sewing up the wildcard in the NL. What a season!

I think this is one of the best ss I have been in!! Very competetive! I've had a hard time because of the inequalities between the pitching and hitting, but it's been fun!

Indeed. Good form for the teams which made it... I shouldn't have relied on myself... My 17 year old ace, to pull us through the season. :P The hitting was there, but I shouldn't have drafted as much youth in pitching as I did, but I was trying to learn from my mistake I made last time when I overemphasized control and left youth at zero.

I ended up with 10 codger pitchers 33-36 with lines as bad as D+/B- vel/ctrl. Of course I drafted best available at the time, like a dolt...

So just a hint to the newer players to the game, for now... Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT, EVER, draft Best Available.

NEVER draft Best-available and DON'T waste any draft points on youth (that you can't develop) in a single-season league.
