Which team (depending on how repentant he will be for past actions) will likely pick him up and what postion he will play?

why would michael vick play any position other than quarterback?

Because other teams many not be all that willing to replace their starter w/ Vick. Also, he has potential as a rusher; Minnesota would be a good place for him as a QB though.

because most backup quaterbacks with that much obvious running skill would be considered for other positions. Kick returner, wideout, dime back, some bastardized backfield...
Personally I think it would be a hell of a lot of fun to have some crazy wishbone with Vick, Tebo, and Tomlinson in there.

they guy was an all-pro quarterback and has no experience playing any other position. why on earth would anyone want to train him somewhere else at this point of his career. the idea is ridiculous.
(also, no one is going to be paying him to be their backup qb. he may not start from day one, but that's going to be the goal.)

Yeah Deke, I think you're wrong on this one. I think there is at least a chance that a team will want to sign him to fill a more flexible role.

the idea of some team taking him and doing some option stuff i find interesting. it would be fun to watch.

saying vick is a pro bowl QB is a misleading statement of fact.

He said WAS a pro bowl QB, not is. Not that it matters...

All-pro (which is what Deke said) is a lot different from Pro Bowl. Vick went to some Pro Bowls, but he was never an All-Pro.

in light of the all-pro/pro-bowl distinction, i am guessing happy was just trying to mislead us, in a roundabout fashion. which is the best way.

It's possible. Deke was definitely wrong about the all-pro thing (and it's not a trivial distinction - there are like 6 Pro Bowl QB's every season, plus alternates, but All-Pro recognizes one 1st-team guy and one 2nd team guy and that's pretty much it.)

how so? he was, in fact, a 3-time pro-bowl qb. if he has anywhere near the skills he left with, he's probably a better qb than what about roughly a quarter of the league has in place right now. he'd certainly be a very interesting asset for any team who was planning on running some wildcat packages. there's no telling what he's got left, but i really don't see anyone signing him as a RB or a WR.

but you didn't say he was a pro-bowl QB. i am misled actually. i am just not sure who by. what we need is ME. he could tell us, quite flatly and finally, whether Vick ever was, at any point in his career, great, decent or sucked. and then we wouldn't need these pesky speculations.

That's a
huge if. And I guess the point is, Vick holds none of the cards here. If he's holding out for a QB job, then his options are limited to a handful of teams (a quarter of the league is 8 teams). And it's not like people are banging down his door - given his situation, those 8 teams might not consider him worth the risk. But if he's willing to expand his options, to think about signing as something more varied, then his opportunities really widen.

Isn't he going to the UFL or is that just hype?

it is a huge if, which is why he's not going to get a big money deal. the thing with vick though, is that if there's any part of his game that's deteriorated, it's as likely to be his legs as anything. which pretty much kills his value anywhere other than qb. he always had a bad rap as a pocket passer, but it's not like he was ever playing with randy moss, either.

(If his legs have deteriorated, then he's censored . At that point, all of this becomes academic.)

did staubach's legs deteriorate to the point of unusability while he was in the navy?
how old is vick? he is a fine athletic specimen, and i can't see why father time should have robbed him of anything at this point.
here is the thing. he is just like anyone who finishes a term in prison. he is either going to take up something illegal, or try to make it legally. most of the folks who leave prison find it very difficult to earn an honest living (that is a good living) because they have a record.
now, what does he know how to do? play football. is he going to pour concrete instead? maybe, i guess, if nobody will let him play football. but certainly, he could play, in the UFL, or Canada, or Europe, or wherever. anything would be better than mopping floors. he is unlikely, i think, to go try to make some money on a dogfighting ring, somebody might be watching out for that.
he might, for the sake of how much money it could return, be disinclined to go with a position other than QB, because those other positions might not have as long an earning stream with them. if he had to sign for the minimum at RB or Defensive back(or whatever) in the NFL, and take his chances with that, would that be more attractive than a better contract to play QB in nowhereville? that i don't know, only vick could say. i think he wants to get on with his life, make some money (we
all want to do that, vick is no outlier). he probably sees football as the way to do that.
should he be barred from it? if you believe we should make it impossible for every other convicted felon to earn a living doing a legitmate thing they know how to do, but should instead either sell drugs or mop floors, you probably think the NFL and every other football organization in the world should blackball him. because he hurt dogs. and dogs are just the most important thing, ever.

Has anyone suggested that he shouldn't be allowed to attempt to make a comeback in the NFL?
