San Fran has played like shit thus far, and I think they lost too much to even be the wild card. It's not a stretch to put them in last place. Milwaukee has been very impressive, probably luck. Look at Kansas City last year, they were by far the best team during the sprong and they came from nowhere to be competitive. Not sure if Milwaukee is good enough to compete against the Cubs

cubsfan, u think arod will win the mvp? i think he will have an amazing season but i think people will argue that he has had way to much help to post the numbers. i mean we are talking maybe the best offense ever so people could argue that they would still do pretty well without him. should be interesting though.

ARod will deserve the MVP, but might not win it because the voters are dumb. Guerrero or Beltran might win it if their teams play really well adn they have big years.

i dont know how u can call arod the most valuble player on a loaded team. i agree about beltran, and guerrero to a degree.

how good you are is independant of how good the other players on your team are.

yea but ur stats are affected. for one ur rbi oppurtunities go up on a good offensive team. also ur obp, slg, and batting average goes up bcuz u have other dangerous hitters behind u and pitchers would rather face u with no one on than giambi or sheffield with u on. also the way i measure the mvp is who is the most responsible/important to their team's success. on a team like the yanks i doubt that they would drop off that much without arod.

I basically couldn't think of anyone not on the Yankees or Red Sox who would have a real good year, forgot about Vlad, and didn't want to pick Manny Ramirez.

RBIs/Runs numbers go up, but they dont matter much. slg and obp dont really go up, only good player on a crappy team may have slightly higher OBP (cause pitchers will walk him intentionally and hope to get out the next guy).

I think Beltran is rather overrated. he has a lot of potential, but it will be a surprise to me if he wins MVP.

so by the way we calulate mvp here, it seems that Dmitri Young should of been teh mvp last year. My point is it doesn't matter how good your team is, it matters how well you play, and the writers consider how padded your stats are due to yoru lineup, but they also consider how you would of done in another lineup, and a-rod could hit a billion HR, and have a billion RBIs in any lineup, even detroit(bet most you people didn;t know detroit had an offfense)

Detroit had an offense last year even though there were only 2 hitters. When Pena decided to do good, then there was a 3rd. Problem was those 3 guys were scattered at the 1, 4, and 7 positions in the lineup. Inge is suppose to be one of the best defensive catchers in the game so we really can't blame him for hurting the offense. Detroit will end in 3rd place in the central

ME, i disagree. u will have a high obp if u are a good player on a bad team but u will have alot more hitable pitches on a good team. also boosting ur average and slugging percentage as well as possibly ur obp. this is bcuz there are other dangerous hitters behind u and nobody wants to walk u and face them with men on. carlos beltran might be the most complete player in the majors. there is some stat incorporating all areas of the game where he is the only guy to put up certain numbers. i have it somewhere i just dont feel like digging it up now. to me the mvp is the guy who is the most important to his team. i think if u take carlos beltran away from KC they are down with detroit fighting for last place. if u take vlad away from anaheim they may still stay in the race but there is a good chance that they will fall out. if u take arod away from the yankees i think that they still could possibly win the al east and would certainly win the wild card. as much as i love arod (bought 2 arod jersey's today) and the yanks, i think it will be a while before a yankee is an mvp bcuz they are so stacked. to me the mvp is the guy who carries his team. not the guy with the best stats. the guy most responsible for his team's success. dimitri young wouldnt have come close bcuz his team sucked. i would have voted for ichiro as the mvp last year bcuz he is the heart of that offense, and that team.

was young not the center of detroit, they would have been far worse without him, ichior had an picthing staff and boone, and edgar behind him, by your logic Young should be the MVP. I agree it might be a while until a yankee wins the mvp award, but not becasue of stats or lineups, it is because a lot of people who vote aren't yankee fans

yea but what success did detroit have? almost setting the loss record? when ichiro missed games, seattle struggled. u cant find any team that depends solely on one player. its just impossible to have a one man baseball team. u can do that in basketball but not in baseball. but ichiro is the catalyst that makes, boone, edgar, and that pitching staff tick.

actually, you said who ever has the biggest impact on there team, and young definitly had that, without him they would of lost a ton more games. And therefore they would have been far worse then they were, and he did far more for his team then beltran who had ibanez, and sweeny.

sweeney was injured for a good chunk of the year, and as i said before there is no such thing as a one man team. ibanez was good but beltran was the heart of that team. young's team sucked and they would have sucked with or without him.

yes but they would of lost far more games compairitvly without young, then the royals would have lost without beltran, and kc even went on its roll at the begging of teh season without beltran
skierdude44

yes, but beltran carried the team through the rest of the season. he missed 14 games at the very beginning of the year but he lead them through the dog days of august and through sweeney's lengthy inury. he is also probably the most complete player in the league and put up great numbers last year. thats mvp material in my opinion. also im not arguing that the best player on a team without any other fire power should be the mvp. if i was then year young would be the mvp, but im not. im arguing that the player that is most responsible for his teams success, or the heart and soul of his team, should be the mvp, not the guy with the best stats. i would argue that arod was more of a burden than of any value when he was with texas bcuz he hampered them tremendously since they signed him and they were a last place team with or without him. to in the MVP the V stands for value to his team, not fantasy value like some people interpret it as. arod is the best fantasy player but he isnt the most valuble in my opinion bcuz his team was a last place team with or without him. now everyone has a different interpretation of value and for the most part no one's is better or more important than anyone elses but thats just my interpretation. i think alot of people wanna turn it into the MOP, or most outstanding player award. that would be based on stats alone and arod would win every year. i think that jeter is an mvp candidate almost every year (not last year though due to his injury). he is one of the best 2 hitters in the game bcuz he gets on base, moves runners over, goes to right field and sets up the meat of the order. he is also a leader who possesses the VALUBLE intangibles and keeps a team who is constantly under insane scrutiny on track. but he has too much help this year in my opinion to win the MVP unless the yanks suffer some serious injuries (not him though) and they still perform well.

i dont really think there is much correlation between your raw numbers and the team you play for, except possibly (i dont have numbers to back it up) a rise in OBP due to intentional walks for being on a crappy team. being on a good team, you will get pitched to just as you would if you were being pitched to on a crappy team.

beltran may be good at defense, but offense is WAY more important than defense. OBP and SLG are much more important than base stealing, though Beltran's stealing efficientcy is very good. It's better to have Jason Giambi (.430 OBP .610 SLG fat and slow and worthless at defense) than Beltran (.380 OBP, .520 SLG extermely fast and very good at defense). Defense and speed are nice bonuses, but hitting matters way more.

i could argue that playing for a good team will also raise ur obp cuz they wont wanna put u on so u want see the harder to control but devasting pitches such as splitters. beltran has alot of potential and to me the mvp isnt based on numbers along (see derek jeter). based on just numbers is the most outstanding player.
