i saw this on PTI a few days ago and i thought i would get ur input. i didnt totally agree with their list (the world cup, masters, and nba finals above the world series:puzzled:) so i wanted to see if i was the only one who didnt agree.

The World Series is my favorite overall, but for a Single day event I love the Indy 500. My vote, though, goes to the WS.

I like March Madness most, I saw that PTI too. World Series second, World Cup third, Super Bowl fourth, that low only because the game always sucks. Olympics fifth just because I like track and watching Jamaican bobsled teams.

I've got to say Olympics because it's all-inclusive. It has track and field and baseball and all that.

I say the World Series, especially since I was born about an hour after one of the most famous World Series home runs of all time, the Carlton Fisk home run against the reds in 75.

my problem with the olympics is that, most americans (including myself) dont really care about alot of the events. i still watch out of pride and cuz its the olympics but i dont really care about the javelin or whatever. baseball is ok but i would like to see the mlb guys but thats not possible. basketball is cool, and i like some of the winter ones, especially skiing.

How can you not watch such exhilerating Olympic sports such as ballroom dancing and all the equestrian events? That's good entertainment there. In the Winter Olympics, curling is the best. I actually watch it, it can be quite entertaining(I'm NOT being sarcastic)

i dont know the rules to curling so it doesnt interest me. i know that my high school founded the first curling club in central jersey though!

The basic rule is slide your rock onto the bullseye. It's not a very complicated sport...

sort of like shuffle board, i guess? sounds cool. maybe ill watch it next olympics. the best sports arent that complicated. basketball-get the ball in the hoop/try not to let the opponent get the ball into the hoop, for example.

It's similar to shuffleboard I guess. The biggest difference is no stick and both teams use the same target. You try to knock the other team's rock from the bullseye. Each team has 4 rocks per round.

Here's a good online version of curling:

1. NCAA tournament
2. Super Bowl
3. World Series
(dropoff)
4. Western Conferance Finals (much better than NBA finals)

don't care about the others, Daytona 500 should be there instead of Indy 500, it is a big event. I hate the Olympics; it focuses on queer sports like swimming, running, and ice skating, and "feel good" stories about stupid athletes, most of whom end up sucking.

Indy has a better history and traditionally better attendence than Daytona. Now if you dont race in the IRL, you cant race at Indianapolis, which is pissing off racers, race supporters, fans, et cetera. Daytona is bigger currently but that has been the case for only a short amount of time

Ah, it's a trick question, so no racing events because...
*ahem*
They are not sporting events!!
They are leisure activities with mindless peril throw in for kicks!
Nothing more!!

My list...
1- Super Bowl (come on, of course its this!)
2- NCAA Tournament (just barely two, all the kids going to the pros is starting to stink up the product a bit...)
3- World Series (once it was first, but it has fallen out of favor ever so slightly.)
4- Olympics (Everyone cares when it comes around, it matters to people who would never follow sports.)
5- College Football Bowl Series (like Tony said, this is number two on the list if they actually had a NCAA style bracket system)

There you go, arguement over! :P

farfetched

HEY! Syco, those horses are hurt that they're not considered athletes. :P

Triple Crown races are fairly interesting, but I feel they're overhyped just a tad. Steeplechase is fun, but not very many people know about it over here in the States... As opposed to the NFL I mean.

Ok, i'll grant you that horse racing is some kind of sporting event, i'm referring to auto racing as the 'athletic' joke.
Any supposed 'sport' where old age doesn't matter and ass sores are the most common injury isn't a sport.
Sorry!

driving 500 miles at 200mph does make you really tired.

And Syc, notice I mentioned the horses and not the jockeys...

Dammit, ok, the jockeys are athletes too, happy now?!:P

Must take a lot of energy to pump those wee little legs of theirs keeps up with us giants...

i believe it was the indy 500 they used on PTI but it may have been the daytona 500. both suck anyway. and so what if it makes u tired. i get tired when i drive up to vermont (its usually right after school or really early) so is that considered a sport. yea, i dont actually drive the car, but come on. who does more work in a race, the driver or the car? the answer: the car.

I don't get racing, what's the appeal?

March 30, 2004 at 04:03AM View BBCode

I wasn't looking for sympathy for the jockeys, Syc... I was merely acknowledging that I made the post whole-heartedly dedicated to those equine wonders...
