Right now the team name for guys in the pool is "Draftee." I would like to suggest this change to "Future Star" or "Prospect," because that is what a real baseball card would say.You could even bastardize the Rookie Card logo that all new cards have and use that instead/also.

I would like to make Prospect cards and Minor League cards different from the regular cards.

I had considered that... I figured I would get complaints about players labelled "Future Star" who clearly had no future. :) (Seriously... that was my reason...)I would like to make Prospect cards and Minor League cards different from the regular cards.

Every OS, if the player is still eligible for ROY the following year, the logo would stay on the card. If you removed the MLB logo, perhaps that would then be acceptable, in terms of copyright law?
While I have you here, what is the character limit for team name on the player cards, or does it depend on the design? I am going to shorten my team names so they fit and want to know what I have to work with.

Depends on the design.
For example:
"Bridegrooms" fits on all cards.
"Metropolitans" and "Diamondbacks" loses one letter on card 10 (2004).
"Trolleydodgers" loses two letters on cards 9 and 10 (1998 and 2004).
"White Stockings" loses one letter on card 9 and two on card 10.
"Angels of Anaheim" loses two letters from cards 1,4,5,6,8, three letters from card 9, and four letters from card 10. It still fits fine on all the other cards.
Note that most of the non-fitting cards use all upper case for the team name. Maybe I should have it go to mixed case if the team name doesn't fit in all upper case....

OK, I made the change to fall back to lower case when necessary... with that change, "Angels of Anaheim" is only clipped on cards 4 and 10.

Amateur makes more sense in the scope of this game (and that is your point, right? that's fine). My rebuttal is that, from a baseball card point of view, it doesn't look as realistic.I think we want different things from the cards, and that's perfectly understandable.

I'm just glad someone likes the cards enough to care what they say, considering how many hours of work went into them... :)

I think the reason I became caught up in what they say is because the designs (intentionally) resemble those that I actually own.

A specific card style for draftees would solve the problem as it would simply not have a space for a team name at all....

You are viewing the raw post code; this allows you to copy a message with BBCode formatting intact.
Perhaps if you look at the Bowman layouts from 1989 to present (especially 2001 to present) you could use those, because people associate Bowman with prospects, especially Bowman Draft, which was first printed in 2002. (2001 Bowman has Pujols' rookie, so people like that design too.)
Obviously for most this is no big deal. Those that collect cards would appreciate this subtlety, though.

I wonder if it would make sense/be worth it to tie the card into the player's age? 17-18 would say High School Amateur, 19-20 would say JuCo Amateur, 21-22 would say College Amateur, and 23+up would simply say Amateur. I think it would be an interesting twist, but I'm pretty sure it would be at the bottom of coding priorities, hah.

another card-related idea...what about putting a little ring on the line when they win a championship, next to the other awards/trophies...I'd like to know whether a guy won his ring with the '87 Bros or the '92 JoesPages: 1
