If that's what someone is willing to pay for them, then yes.

(ha, exactly what I thought when I saw this)

sports teams are essentially a novelty purchase, you generally dont buy it for the income.

You buy it so that you can sell it for even more money to the next sucker.

The key is, you have to get a nice sweetheart tax deal for a new stadium, preferably using your connections as the son of a very powerful man. Get the state to pay for the stadium through tax increases and then give it to you for significantly less than it cost. Grab some land around the stadium for real cheap by getting your cronies in the capital to threaten eminent domain. Then sell the whole thing, the team, the stadium, the land and the lawsuits that go along with it to the next guy, take your nice 10% cut of the whole thing and......do something else, I guess. I don't know what ended up happening to that guy.

...the hell?

I thought this was an old thread that got dug up. The Cubs being sold is somewhat of a fossil, as far as news goes.

As a side note, I really hope the new owners have the manhoods to do the right thing and make a new Wrigley Field. The idea of Wrigley as it stands is nice, but the reality is that the stadium is kind of an embarrassment nowadays.

well, syco, that would make it perfect for the cubs, an embarrassment of a baseball team, to continue to play there.

Well, I'll not hold this collection of players responsible for 100+ years of bad management, let's all do the same. I'll call it, the bid for sanity.

I was speaking directly to the 100+ years of embarrassment.

Well, we all are dismayed at the 145 year old guy behind the scenes making every decision for the Cubs up to this point, he should totally be replaced.
