Statement from Cavs Owner

July 09, 2010 at 03:24AM View BBCode

Wow, check out the Cavs home page. This is so fiercely worded I wouldn't be surprised if a hacker put it up!

Dear Cleveland, All Of Northeast Ohio and Cleveland Cavaliers Supporters Wherever You May Be Tonight;

As you now know, our former hero, who grew up in the very region that he deserted this evening, is no longer a Cleveland Cavalier.

This was announced with a several day, narcissistic, self-promotional build-up culminating with a national TV special of his "decision" unlike anything ever "witnessed" in the history of sports and probably the history of entertainment.

Clearly, this is bitterly disappointing to all of us.

The good news is that the ownership team and the rest of the hard-working, loyal, and driven staff over here at your hometown Cavaliers have not betrayed you nor NEVER will betray you.

There is so much more to tell you about the events of the recent past and our more than exciting future. Over the next several days and weeks, we will be communicating much of that to you.

You simply don't deserve this kind of cowardly betrayal.

You have given so much and deserve so much more.

In the meantime, I want to make one statement to you tonight:

"I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER ?KING? WINS ONE"

You can take it to the bank.

If you thought we were motivated before tonight to bring the hardware to Cleveland, I can tell you that this shameful display of selfishness and betrayal by one of our very own has shifted our "motivation" to previously unknown and previously never experienced levels.

Some people think they should go to heaven but NOT have to die to get there.

Sorry, but that's simply not how it works.

This shocking act of disloyalty from our home grown "chosen one" sends the exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn. And "who" we would want them to grow-up to become.

But the good news is that this heartless and callous action can only serve as the antidote to the so-called "curse" on Cleveland, Ohio.

The self-declared former "King" will be taking the "curse" with him down south. And until he does "right" by Cleveland and Ohio, James (and the town where he plays) will unfortunately own this dreaded spell and bad karma.

Just watch.

Sleep well, Cleveland.

Tomorrow is a new and much brighter day....

I PROMISE you that our energy, focus, capital, knowledge and experience will be directed at one thing and one thing only:

DELIVERING YOU the championship you have long deserved and is long overdue....

THE IRO...no, no, nevermind.

(anyway. the Cavs can sign Richard Jefferson now, which will make everyone happy.)

Just quoting the letter really doesn't do it justice; look at [url=http://www.nba.com/cavaliers/news/gilbert_letter_100708.html]the font[/url] they chose. We might have a Section 8 on our hands.

Hell, he internet wrote it in crayon.

(He probably handed it to an intern written in exactly that. Maybe with a few magazine cutouts, for some added panache.)

"Twattish" should be a word now.

I'm assuming Dan Gilbert wanted to make sure no top-shelf free agents will come to Cleveland for the next few decades with that childish rant. Well done, then.

This thread is not sports related imo. Basketball is no longer a sport, as it has become a large hillarious prank.

It's certainly more exhibition nowadays, isn't it? I guess if everyone wanted to watch the Heat constantly winning titles over the next decade it would be cool, might be pretty damn boring for everyone else.

(The NBA has a big talent pool to draw from of players just good enough for the pros who haven't gotten a chance yet, and most anyone could find shots with James, Wade and Bosh around to draw all the real defensive pressure. The Heat will have no trouble finding cheap talent to fill out their roster. It's pretty much assured that Heat team, barring apocalyptic injury, is on its way to a string of titles. It won't be Globetrotters level nonsense, but its far too close for it to be healthy.)

((I mean, why isn't everyone assuming the Heat were prepared to go over the salary cap to make this threesome result in titles? This team will be covered relentlessly, any luxury tax hit they take they'll laugh off because of all the extra money that will pour in from the interest alone.))

I was actually thinking just a few days ago that Queen James should sign with the Washington Generals, because god, they just really need a win.

Also, we should begin discussing the significantly more competitive 3 on 3 basketball scene.

(WHO WILL WIN? And1 team A or And1 team B???!!)

They can't just go way into the luxury tax because they want to. That's not how it works. You have to use exceptions and trades and all that nonsense.

By year five of this thing, yea, they'll end up way over the cap (assuming a vaguely similar CBA), with draft picks and a few exceptions and stuff. But they can't go out and sign Carmelo Anthony next year for funsies, or anything like that.

I thought the statement was perfect, including the Comic Sans, since it was intended for Cleveland fans.

Ah, you are ever the voice of reason. Once I get past all this nonsense we all just endured, I'll be greatly interested in watching that Heat team play, but I need time.

How come he didn't mention the loyalty he showed Mike Brown and Danny Ferry? Nor asked the question that, if he enabled and covered for LeBron these past eight years, what kind of example is that setting for parents children anyone?

Maybe that's in tomorrow's rant.

People tend to overrate reservation nowadays, as though a person in a high position should have no personality. Sometimes leadership is all about doing something like this when it's what your people need. The people of Cleveland and the Cavaliers organization are devastated, and their leader has showed that he is on their side and feeling exactly what they're feeling. He owes nothing to Lebron James. He owes his leadership to the Cavaliers organization.
