roster page suggestion

March 06, 2002 at 07:20PM View BBCode

Now that we're testing multi-season play, and building our teams over the long haul, I'd like to see an addition to the roster page - a display of your team similar to the way the minor-leaguers are displayed, i.e. all the attributes and the age listed for all players on one page (similar to how it is shown in the trading page).

This will allow the owner to more easily assess his team as a whole - how old the team is, how everyone compares offensively, defensively, etc.

I would keep the pages already there - lineup vs. righty, lineup vs. lefty, rotation & bullpen, minor league roster - and add major league roster showing the whole team.

This can be added as another page. Or an extension of the vs lefty or vs righty pages, or by enhancing the Promote/Demote screen. I'll add it to the list and give it some thought.

I bring it up only because I think it will save the user some time in assessing his team. Rather than looking at individual player cards, the user has all the information about all of his major league players right on one page. This is already done in the trade screens, and is done for the minor league rosters - I think it would be handy for users to have quick and easy access to that information on one screen.

With this screen, I could easily assess the composition of my roster as a whole, comparing for example my shortstops in defense, speed, hitting ability vs. L and R, and their age. This would make it easier to locate areas of strength that I could deal from, and areas of weakness I'd like to shore up.

Preparing for the amateur draft would also be easier, as I could look at this page to see where my biggest weaknesses are on the major league squad, factoring in age.

Of course, the user can always copy the team information into Excel or Word and use that to analyze their team, or alternately go to the trade desk, propose a trade and then view the necessary information from that page, but it would be a lot more work.
