Not being able to score runs on a pitching with an ERA over censored 7.
Can someone tell me the point of player ratings when many of them seem to perform the exact opposite of expected?

This is not Automatic.....You still gotta play the games....Time after time in real life Baseball, you see teams sign Free agents who Don't perform (Carl Crawford ?)..or young guys who surpass expectations (Ask the NY Yankees about the Florida Marlins in '03).....just because a player has high ratings doesn't guarantee results....Just like Real life...that is why the games are played....you just can't predict the outcome...that is the beauty of this game....you just have to learn to embrace the unknown, and celebrate the Victories when they happen

But thats the thing. This IS automatic. Why use a ratings system for players if it doesn't actually mean anything?
When I have a starter with an ERA under 3 that has more losses than wins but then simultaneously can't score more than 2 runs in 2 games off starters with ERA's over 7. It's not about guaranteed results it's about some form of consistency.
Also trying to figure out why my worst relievers are always brought in first despite the fact that I have it set to bring in my closer as first choice for every relief scenario and he still only throws in save situations.

I am in the middle in this discussion....I don't understand how the Pitchers and substitiutes are chosen at all....and i seldom agree with h the guy the computer chooses....on the other hand,i do believe that there is an X factor that we are unaware of in concern to players' performances....some guys who would seem to be Productive are just never gonna be....wish i knew how to spot those types before they ruin a season, but haven't figured it out yet....DonnieDiamond is right about the "Need to play the game " comment,though.....it wouldn't be much fun if you just awarded the pennant to the team who had the best draft....there are obviously little nuances to be learned about managing, assesing players as the season progresses, and such.....we learn on the job,and THAT is the Joy of playing this game....No guarantees, but a liile more likelihood would be appreciated sometimes

My pitcher with the 2.99 ERA?
10 runs in 6ip.
Yep. Just like real baseball.
Also, in the same game I had TWO leadoff triples and failed to score a run on either of them. Just like real baseball.........................

I guess the ultimate point is; the theory of "variance" can only work if it goes both ways. When my superior pitchers are constantly getting their asses kicked I am experiencing normal negative variance. Ill concede that point.
BUT then why is San Fransisco 1-60 and has experience no positive variance at all? For it to be variance it has to work both ways.
The current scenario is just my better players getting their asses kicked by worse players over a ~20 game stretch for no apparent reason at all.

And my bullpen blows yet another in the 9th in a game where a 5.17 ERA pitcher is better than a 2.88 ERA pitcher.
I'm starting think it's just pure luck at this point.

Hey I did manage to beat the team thats only won 1 game, but not without my starting right fielder going down for 41 days!
So even when I win I don't win.

So after I no-hit Chicago into the 8th and still lose 3-2 now my pitcher with an ERA a run and a half lower than his gets smoked while I get shut out into the 9th.
Still not understanding this sim at all.

Just so we all know, still waiting for unbelievable and unsustainable negative variance to stop shitting on every single game my team plays.
Pretty sad when you KNOW, without a doubt, that you need at the very minimum a 5 run lead to win any game because 95% of the time the game will be blown. Doesn't matter if it's the starter or the relievers. The lead will be blown. Usually as results of;
Infield singles
A sudden and complete loss of control by whatever pitcher is on the mound.
Errors by the catcher when guys steal bases with 2 outs which always result in more walks and 2 out hits for whatever the opponent.
I thought OOTP was bad but for censored sake this sim could use some consistency. Maybe that's the wrong word though because it has been consistent with censored me.
After 1 full season of censored like that which has continued into this one, coupled with the how easy it is to get screwed iin the draft(rank your players meticulously but then watch as the sim takes position players in the first X rounds when you specifically wanted pitching) I think it's safe to say sim dynasty has lost a potential new subscriber.
