England 1 France 2....shite...what a choke...and Stevie G, what the hell were you thinking? Cranberry. :mad:June 13, 2004 at 10:10PM View BBCode
England will still get out of the group probably, but it will take more work now. Portugal screwed themselves, now they have to at least beat Spain or Russia and tie the other probably, because they lost to Greece.June 14, 2004 at 01:29AM View BBCode
yup...they were weak....Portugal that is...and it serves England right for trying to protect the damn 1 goal lead...the best defence is a good offence...damn....What were Heskey and then Gerrard thinking?June 14, 2004 at 04:10AM View BBCode

yeah maybe they should make a goal worth say 12 points then you would see more scores like 24-12 then us americans would think there was more action.June 14, 2004 at 02:17PM View BBCode
well I don't like soccer but it is the #1 sport in the world. I try watching it every once in a while just to see if I can find what people like about it but the rules confuse me. Why does the clock stop sometimes when the ball goes out of bounds and keeps running other times? And how come when time expires they add an extra couple of minutes? The rules are very weird to someone who doesn't know them.June 14, 2004 at 03:50PM View BBCode
If you took away offsides it would probably be a lot more appealing to most Americans.June 14, 2004 at 04:00PM View BBCode
Nothing you can do to soccer is ever going to make Americans care about it more.June 14, 2004 at 04:05PM View BBCode
You could make them play Grenada every day, giving the appearance that America is the best at it. I think the US is rated 9 now out of 204, which is like the best ever for it. But still most Americans only flock to sports that the US dominate.June 14, 2004 at 05:23PM View formatted

I tried playing it before just screwing around in my friend's backyard. I couldn't quite grasp how to kick a ball and run at the same time, lol. I guess I'm not coordinated enough, I always fell over or tripped over the ball.June 14, 2004 at 07:44PM View BBCode
It is fun to play and boring to watch. There is hardly any scoring. You could say the same thing about Hockey but there are body checks and many scoring opportunities. That sport is fun to watch.June 14, 2004 at 09:15PM View BBCode
Is soccer really that complicated? Let's see, you kick a ball, into a goal, with a big wide net, and you don't touch the ball with your hands unless you're the goalie. You can't be passed the ball if you're behind all the defenders. If you kick it out behind your goal, it's a goal kick, otherwise it's a corner kick. Is there really any more to it than that? People who like soccer always say that Americans don't like it because it's too cerebral, or there's not enough scoring, or it doesn't give you the quick fix, or whatever else. In most of the world, soccer is a game for the masses, in other words the lower classes. Believe me, I've seen English soccer fans, and they'd just as soon kick you in the nuts as discuss the finer points of the corner kick.Pages: 1
