Extra point changes installed
December 10, 2012 at 10:25PM View BBCode
The chances of missing an extra-point kick or having one blocked have been increased to get closer to NFL averages. The target is for an overall success rate of about 98.5%, with about 1.05% of extra-point kicks being outright misses and the other 0.45% being blocked.
Of course wind and player skills have a great deal to do with all of this and a couple of seasons of data is a small sample size. I've made the adjustments based on 1,000,000 sample kicks plus analyzing 15,152 extra point attempts in both Beta and the main football server, so I'm fairly confident that overall things should be pretty accurate now. Just one or two more or fewer misses/blocks in a single season will appear to skew the percentages quite a bit, but over time it should average out correctly. Still, if things seem off, please let me know.

10 6 WAS 3/G NYA 3
3rd and goal for the Gnats, they huddle and line up in a Shotgun; the Trojans line up in a 4-2-5 Nickel.
Charles Merlin takes the snap and drops back into the pocket.
Merlin passes to Ray Brooks in the end zone.
The ball is caught in the end zone by Ray Brooks.
Pass by Charles Merlin is completed to Ray Brooks for a 3 yard gain.
Touchdown for the Washington Gnats!
The Gnats will go for the two point conversion.
The Gnats line up in a Pro Set; the Trojans line up in a 4-3.
Charles Merlin takes the snap and drops back into the pocket.
Merlin passes to Bryant Kauffman in the end zone.
The pass is tipped away by Randy Specht.
Pass by Charles Merlin intended for Bryant Kauffman is incomplete.
The two-point conversion is no good.
Red Urban (G, WAS) is shaken up on the play; he will return soon.
The Washington Gnats take the lead, 10 - 12
I don't get this. I've never seen this from my team before. What's wrong with 13-10, why go for 2 point conversion?

This is based on your settings, but the answer is that successfully going for 2 forces the other team to go for a touchdown, they can't tie it with a field goal.

Chris
But now they can win it with a field goal.
Is it possible to have more control on the 2 point conversion?
like clicking on the 2-pt chart in the kicking strategy page to activate when we want a conversion instead of just sliding the aggressiveness button.

Going for 2 when trailing by 2 after a touchdown is pretty standard football strategy. Even at the minimum aggressiveness setting, "go for 2" will be specified in this situation. (See http://www.theredzone.org/Features/TwoPointConversionChart.aspx for an example, but charts like that example are all over the net.)
What I don't have is a way to turn off the 2-point conversion entirely, which may be a good thing.

It would be a ton of work for little benefit. So far I haven't had anyone tell me there is a situation they want to go for 2 in and another they want to kick in that can't be set via the slider. If there were common situations the slider just couldn't handle I might put more work into this area.

I have added the option to never go for two.

Yes, but in this case he wasn't trailing by 2, he was winning by 2. A PAT could've made them take a 3 point lead...
I know it comes down to his (rather aggressive) settings regarding 2pt conversion, but that's why I suggested -->

That's fine, I understand.
BTW, amazing work you're doing with this game. I wanted this game several years ago and I finally find it when I had stopped searching for it. Congrats.

Sorry, I confused myself partway through looking into this.
If he'd have dropped his aggressiveness 2 points, he would not have gone for it in that situation without losing too much else on the chart (he also would no longer go for 2 when down by 8.)
If a demand does arise for more control over the situation, I may be able to do it without too much pain by doing "overrides", where you could select parts of the chart to have a specific result and the rest to go by the slider. Part of the problem with that, though, is that the displayed chart is on 3-minute intervals but the actual internal data used by the game is on 45-second increments, so I would need to figure out how to handle that. (The data and game handling is actually fairly easy; the hard part is building the interface to actually do it.)

Thank you... I appreciate it!
