Re-Examine Batter/Pitcher influence on outcomes

I remember Tyson suggested this idea a while back where great hitters or pitchers would have a greater effect on the outcome of each plate appearance. This would widen the standard deviation and create more dispersion between the great players and average players, which is more realistic than the current game. Did anything ever come of this?

evidently there was a big problem in Beta with this, where the best offense in the league would have like a .230 team average or something, so it went back to the drawing board and that's the last I've heard of it.
I should add that I never really understood what this was all about, ha. The best hitters and pitchers are already pretty consistently the best in my opinion. I wouldn't want to see the best pitchers going 28-2 with 1.50 ERAs every year of their prime or something. Maybe if it was a season-by-season thing, where every year ABE would randomly choose a handful of guys to have more "influence" or whatevers and have a great year...but players have random great years already.
Yeah, so, I'm probably not the best person to answer this.

part of the problem with the beta test of the revised matchup stuff is folks won't pay attention to their team and its impossible to get reliable results.
aside from that, its just a fairly big undertaking and the results can be so crazy. first we had the hitters just gone crazy, and then the code was adjusted, and the pitchers started turning in numbers that were even more crazy, in fact, they (the pitchers' numbers) are now, still, severely retarded and silly, to the point the thing is hardly worth playing. i mean, truly, its that dumb. what is even more dumb is, if the results were revealed, probably 65 or 70% or more of private league owners would want to play with this silly, silly code. because it would increase their reward for landing that big pitcher (either by tank or by trade, whatever) even more than it is now.

(this is not say the effort by tyson is silly, just the results are silly, because it is very hard to peg down the right balance. the current code gives the stats back right, in the aggregate, there are some folks that want some players that are obviously very good to give back numbers that are very, very good.)
this is an example of what we have now:
http://beta.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?mode=player&playername=nobody&id=9809902
you see, the problem with that is, that's never been done in real life. ever. not in the so called dead ball era. not before they moved the pitcher back farther to where he is now. its impossible, ok? a human being could never do it. but this thing is no outlier with the code we're using now. there are two active that have a better lifetime era than that. there are another 27 or so that are active or recently retired that have a lifetime era under two runs.
but, if you made this available to folks, they would want it. its silly, but there it is.
