1986 HOF nominees
May 13, 2013 at 12:08AM View BBCode
To follow are the Hall of Fame nominees from the retiring class of 1986. This one's a short list. If you feel that a deserving player has been excluded, then I encourage you to take over this job. :)
Everyone is welcome/encouraged to vote. Our current requirements for induction require "yes" votes from either (a) 2/3 of league members, which would be 11, or (b) 3/4 of those who vote. If you're not aware, the current HOF can be viewed under the "stats" tab.
Here are the nominees. Please post your votes and any comments in this thread. Because we're between seasons, we'll allow the voting to continue for a little extra time...let's say through Monday, May 20th.

Baltimore votes:
Brooks Anderson
You know being from Baltimore I have to vote for anybody named Brooks lol. Very nice career for Brooks, I think Castillo might have had a better resume if he was not a part time player the last few years, but man he had some triples.
Thanks again Causey for taking care of the HOF...

Brooks Anderson (I still remember that his last season was my first season in SimDynasty. It seems like so long ago, ha ha)

STL
Brooks Anderson - No, but it couldn't be closer to a yes without being a yes.
Luis Castillo - No, but I'd have liked him on my team.

Has everyone looked at Anderson and how he compares to other players?
Just in terms of hits, he's 28th all time and is in front of TWENTY-TWO players already in the Hall of Fame. Just something to think about.

I do appreciate your point, Piper. The hit total was the main reason I thought Anderson should be on the ballot. In fact, he has good numbers across the board.
I also like the open debate. Awhile back, I used to write a summary on each player...where he ranked in statistical categories, how many All-star awards he had, how many rings, etc. All of which I think is relevant for HOF consideration. But the site keeps evolving to where player cards show certain things beginning in a certain year but not prior...frankly it's a big mish-mash. So I'd have to sort through all kinds of info to present the data that I thought was important. It just took more time than I'm now willing/able to devote.
But if people want to bring attention to certain facts or stats, I'm all for it. I also think that voters should be allowed to change their votes (up to the cutoff date)...just as they might if we were sitting in a room openly discussing the pros and cons of each player.
In Anderson's case, his hit total was not lost on me. Nor was the fact that he was an anchor of a team that reached the playoffs six times and won two rings. His durability and longevity were great attributes. I just think he's lacking the superlative qualities. But in my vote, I was completely serious when I said that his case was as close as it could get...in my opinion.
I'll stick to a "no" vote on Anderson. It wouldn't have taken much to push me over the edge though. Like if he'd dated a sim Scarlett Johanson, for instance.

Anderson was a hard to say no vote, but I use the same logic as I do with guys like Craig Biggio. Is he a good player or a great player? Anderson played for 17 seasons, and never had a 200 hit season yet almost got 3000 hits. He doesnt rank high in any other category, so he fits into the category for me good player, but not a Hall of Famer. Maybe my standards are a bit high, but there are quite a few major leaguers in real life I feel are Hall of Famers but are not elected either.

I agree with Minions assessment of Anderson. I felt he was very good player, but not a Hall Fame player.
