Prior to about 1920 (I forget exactly what year the rule changed), the home run in [url=http://simdynasty.com/boxscore.jsp?boxscoreid=25233461&cityid=3]this game[/url] would be officially recorded as a single, the batter being awarded only enough bases to get the winning run across the plate.
There's a list in the back of the McMillan Baseball Encyclopedia of all the home runs that were lost because of this rule. Babe Ruth was one of the guys.

Didn't they go back and retroactively award home runs on those?
