I worked out a little prediction calculator based on starting line ups and pitching staffs. It doesn't take into account depth or defense, so I have good excuses if it is way off. Here is what it predicts for 2008 in the AL:
1. New York
2. Tampa Bay
3. Chicago
4. Seattle
5. Cleveland
6. Minnesota
7. Boston
8. Texas
No offense intended. The numbers were close, with NY-TB-Chi bunched together, then Sea-Cle, then Min-Bos-Tex. Trades, Injuries, Defense, and Luck will all mess up my calculations, which are based on assumptions that might not be true anyway. Bill James I'm not.
I'll try to get the NL and WS done later, but I'm out of time this morning.

4. Horror Show
5. Gross
6. Talentless
7. Putrid
8. Embarrassing
This division has been a one horse race for a while now. Maybe someone can get lucky. But its Philly and a bunch of stinkers.

There is a significant gap between Philly and the rest of the league. But the rest of the NL is very closely bunched, with all seven teams ranking higher than the bottom three in the AL, so there is more parity (after clear leader Philly) and the overall rating for the two leagues is very close. In fact the average team in the NL has a higher ranking than the average team in the AL, even with two less highly ranked teams. The closest races should be the three-way race for the top two spots in the AL and the battle for second in the NL, at which all 7 teams have a good shot.

I got the right NL team in the WS, but Tampa crossed me up in the AL. Also apparently Pittsburgh took offense at my picking them last and went on a mission.
