"all you can eat, baby"

November 18, 2013 at 12:05AM View BBCode

Charge me $50/month or $399/year and let me have as many leagues as I want. Here are the stipulations:

a) I have to check every team at least once every three days unless I notify the league ahead of time
b) I have to field a complete lineup and keep my minors at a pre-determined level (probably 20, except for System 4, where the requirement to have below 25 is self-policing, in that you can't set a lineup if you have more than 50 on your roster)
c) Dynasty not included

Try it for a one-year trial period to clean up the list of available teams, and then reassess. Call it a Black Friday special. What the hell, why not.

It is an intriguing idea. We'd need to charge a bit more than $50/month, maybe $70/month. It would be some work to automate this.

I'd include the dynasty leagues as well, I don't see a reason to exclude them - do you?

I'd like to get an idea of how many people (and who) might be interested in such an idea. If you'd be interested in such a plan at $70 per month, please reply below and I'll consider the suggestion.

Thanks!

I was primarily thinking of a way to clear out the privateavailable.jsp page. It would only take three or four memberships to do it. Would reduce the need to find chaperones as well. Combined with game updates, maybe after 12-18 months this wouldn't be necessary anymore, but just an interim solution.

But if people wanted to do Dynasty Leagues, I don't know why it would be a bad thing :) I'm wondering if the leonards and kittenses of the world would be interested, although THOSE GMs you're already making more than that. It's more to get the buzzzes and heinerkins to play (and spend) more :)

For me, I already spend about that month, so it doesn't make much of a difference. But in any case, we need to see that others would be interested first, as you've said.

I don't know how helpful this would be in the long term. Because what happens when one of the "all you can eat" people decides to cancel? Then you're back with dozens of teams on the list.

I put up a poll for some owners to see how many would be interested, I've gotten 4 positive responses. The rest either not interested, or maybe later. I'm going to continue to think about this, and some other ideas that have been sparked by this idea.

Well, I'm glad a) it's not just me, and b) it could lead to some tangible result.

Yes, if one of those members cancels you're back where you started, but if we do nothing we're there already. The goal is not so more leagues can be created but to reduce the list of available teams. Ideally this option goes away once the list is pared down to a reasonable size.

But an option to avoid this would be to offer an annual version.
