Sortable retiree stats

August 19, 2013 at 05:51PM View BBCode

I posted this on [url=http://simdynasty.ideascale.com]the IdeaScale site[/url], and it's received some positive response there, so now I'm doing things backward and putting it here for everyone to see and comment on:

I think the "retired players" list (under the "News" menu) should be replaced with [url=http://simdynasty.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Sortable-retiree-and-Hall-of-Fame-stats/109424-3581]a report of the year's retirees with a sortable stats listing[/url], and then the "Hall of Fame" listing should include sortable stats as well (as opposed to the static list that's there now).

That way, when voting on Hall of Fame in a given league, you can look at the current HoF members and sort for highs and lows in each category, and you can look at this year's retirees and find the top guys in each category. That should make HoF nominations and voting a lot easier to accomplish.

I can't imagine it would be very difficult to do; it would essentially be the "Player Rankings" report (under "Stats"), adapted a bit to show retirees from a given year and their career stats rather than active players and their current stats.

Superb idea!!! This will make HoF voting much, much easier, especially for an owner that is new to a league and wasn't around while the players were active. It will be a simple click away to view the highs and lows in each category for players already in the Hall. You have my vote!

The link (with an additional idea in the comments by yours truly) is [url=http://simdynasty.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Sortable-retiree-and-Hall-of-Fame-stats/109424-3581]here[/url].

You are viewing the raw post code; this allows you to copy a message with BBCode formatting intact.
I'm bumping this up to get a little more attention - it's +15 on [url=http://simdynasty.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Sortable-retiree-and-Hall-of-Fame-stats/109424-3581]Ideascale[/url], which ain't bad, I think. Turns out someone else had a similar idea, just not as fleshed out, and [url=http://simdynasty.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Hall-of-Fame-Stats/79059-3581]it's rated +29...[/url] a little more pub, and this might make it onto Admin's radar...

I've always wanted to be able to compare stats of players, both active and retire, by position. For example, if a player hits 400 homes runs during his career, is he a HOFer? Maybe not if he is compared to all the players in a league. However, if he is the only catcher in the history of the league to ever surpass the 400 home run mark, than yes, he is clearly a HOFer.

So, if Admin is going to add sortable stats for retired players, please also include the option to view sortable stats by position.

Another fantastic idea.
