Zeta draft is paused

I am troubleshooting a draft problem; I have paused the drafts in Zeta while I investigate.

Why is is paused when the playoffs aren't done?

So that way when the playoffs and offseason finish, the draft won't continue until I am ready for it to.

I may just take this opportunity to upgrade the draft to run pick by pick.
Quick poll: How long is "too long" for a draft to run? Even giving each pick only two minutes on the clock makes for an 8 hour draft even without any pause between rounds. Of course I think people will stop worrying about it much after round 3, but still, it seems excessive.

what about something like two minutes per pick in the 1st, 15 minute pause to reset draft orders, two minutes per pick in the second, 15 minute pause and then run the rest of the draft? people would get to be hands-on if they want, and you'd still be done in under three hours. plus those who didn't want to/couldn't be on live for the first round and/or second would still know what time to be on to reset their draft order.
what happens when two or more of these drafts runs at the same time though?

The actual draft itself causes very little strain on the database... next to none when you are only doing one pick. It's having multiple people on re-sorting their draft order that I suspect may be causing draft issues, although I can't see why that would be an issue either unless I have a bad index or something (we have never had those issues in Beta).
When you look at the draft page, I should be able to post a schedule of when your picks are "on the clock". You could theoretically reset your draft order at any time, even during a round; when the time for your pick comes it will simply take whoever is on the top of your list at that point that is not excluded by other draft rules. Since you will be looking at the page within the context of a specific round, I can even highlight in red players that won't be drafted due to that round's settings.
Players don't actually join your team until the whole draft is over so you won't be able to trade or waive them or anything until it is complete.

sure, if you're online. that would be cool. I'm jus thinking that someone who only has x amount of time on draft night might benefit from knowing when each round was going to start.

I'm not sure how this works but when my 2 minutes comes up, I'd like to see who's left and actually select someone. At the end of the 2 mins does it select who's at the top of the draft board? Can I rearrange that during the 2 mins?

That's what I understood.
Now... are you willing to risk that the site (or your internet connection) gets a bit slower during that couple of minutes and you don't end up selecting the guy you wanted?
I think you should just have it ready as soon as you can.

The message boards should be really entertaining while the draft is taking place...

2 minutes between picks seem right to me aswell.
I'd like time to adjust before the 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounds.
(
-1st round
-time to adjust
-2nd round
-time to adjust
-3rd round
-time to adjust
-Rest of the draft.
)
Although probably the 2 minute gap between picks could be only in the first (and maybe in the second) round(s).
I'm worried about the schedule... what time would the draft run in this cases?

Could Chris put a chat inside the draft page like yahoo? Or does that require java?

2 minutes per selection and like first 3 rounds sounds pretty cool to me.

could this combination of factors lead to MORE of a strain if everyone in a couple leagues is constantly resorting their draft board as players are drafted?

The draft page is relatively simple, it should never have been a strain in the first place. I'm still not convinced 100% that it is.
Of course you don't need to wait for your 2 minute slot to adjust your draft, that 2 minutes just happens to be the one window in which you know exactly who you will get. If there are, say, 4 picks ahead of you and you are comfortable with the order of your next 5 selections, you are golden. My worry is that people WILL wait till that last moment, make a last second change and get upset when a moment of network congestion doesn't get their pick in. I will have to have huge disclaimers to get your picks in early and that I won't be pausing drafts or backing out picks because someone missed a submission by half a second.
Yes, we will b e able to post a schedule for when your picks should be up. IT is possible if the network or server gets busy these times may occasionally drift a minute or two.

I am dying to do this draft too....As long as we have 24 hours notice I am clearing my day and sitting in front of the computer!

is the draft ready to go now? the "draft paused" note at the top of the page is gone.

The draft has run. Please keep an eye out for any unexpected picks.
This is a bugfix run; hopefully by the next draft we'll be able to test a pick-by-pick draft.
