I work as a coach for my cities parks and rec department and right now we are doing baseball. So I have one team that is 6, 7 and 8 year olds and that is the age where the coach pitches under hand to the kids.
...Side story for a second. Last season, I was pitching to my kids in a game and we had just gotten a hit and the other team was getting the ball in to me and their "pitcher" (he fields the ball from the pitchers postion) got the ball about 8 feet away from me. Now this kid has one of the best arm in the league and he winds up to throw it his hardest (from 8 feet away!!!) and, of course just as he does my third base coach says something to me. I look up. Pain. I was able to hang in there and pitch that time, but I just wanted the inning to end...
Anyways back to today. We are doing batting practice, and I have this kid. Second biggest guy in the league, and one of the two hardest hitters. And he is a great hitter so I am throwing him overhand and not too soft either. This kid is hitting shots. Most guys can't hit the ball out of the infield, this guy could get it too the fence if he really got ahold of it.
So I am about 15 feet away from him and then it happens. He rips a ball that starts off right about 3 feet off the ground and a milla-second latter it is still 3 feet off the ground (I am five foot eleven). All I have time to do is think, "This is going to be painful." I try to get my hand down (maybe if I would have been wearing a glove?) in time but I have no chance. OOOFFFFFF.
I stand there for about 3 seconds. With 5 little kids watching me. "That really hurt". Then I just say screw it and fall down. I lay there for about 3 minutes and the kids just stare. They latter said they had never taken a low blow (aside from a soccer ball which is not nearly as bad, I know from experience).
My co-coach (a girl), says, "are you okay?"
Me, "Not really."
Her, "Well, if it makes you feel any better I got hit in the elbow."
In retrospect this is hilarious because it shows just how small an understanding women have of this pain. At the time though all I can say is, "That really doesn't help."
So after about 5 minutes I recover enough to finish up throwing BP. And hell if I wasn't scared everytime the ball came off the bat. So after today, I am either wearing a cup or just retiring from pitching all together
Sorry to sort of ramble, but I had to post about it. I am still sore, and that happened about 3 hours ago. And I plan on being sore for some time. It hurts to sit up right now.
So anyways this can lead to some discussion. The nut shots that you have taken. And the way girls do not comprehend this pain.

Okay I gave in and did an Ignite spoof post (it seems like everyone has), but it fits the situation perfectly because I had the most painful day at work in my life. I don't see how they possibly could. I mean none of us can comprehend it, can we? You can't even really describe it or remember what it was like until it happens to you again. It's probably about the only non life threatening injury where you simply can't MOVE for several minutes. I mean you get drilled in the elbow or on the knee, it hurts like hell, but you don't lose the ability to move completely. You get drilled in the nuts you're down and staying down.

The only sound I can make when that has happened to me is some sort of unnnng, take a shaky breath, unnnng. Sucks!

Ouch. Well if it makes you feel any better back when I used to pitch I had a line drive come back and hit me there. So I understand your pain. The fealing is unbearable, I'd rather have my gums scraped with a rusty icepick than take a shot in the groin with a baseball. They're hard and perfect size to completely crush your jewels...and dreams of having children

Anyone ever hear about or experience the gooseneck on a bike. Well at 13 I learned real quick they are quite dangerous. Damn banana seats lined you up perfect for a direct hit. Ended up in the hospital to have the right one put back into the sack where it belonged.Even after 34 years it is definitely a pain I will never forget.

well, about 3 halloweens ago, i woulda been about 12 or 13. my friend and i stopped at this house and they gave us this huge like glass bowl with candy in it. he had a pillow case to put his candy in. keep in mind, 12 or 13, thats about when i started to... "change". so they were a little more sensative. well, he thought it would be funny to take a little swing at the pills. not to get too deep into what all happened, i believe i was laying on the ground close to 30 minutes, no joke, holding my tallywhacker and moaning... nothing like it...

Your not whining Andrew as any sudden hit in the jewels always seems to produce unwanted tears and a shooting/throbing pain that is never forgotten. Mine just happened to be to the extreme.

I would describe the pain as a terrible stomach ache in your balls, but 10x the amount of pain. I agree...girls have no idea...Pages: 1
