Chat Room
August 06, 2014 at 05:03AM View BBCode
We need to get the chat room back up and running. It was one of the best features of the game back in the late 00's. It allows for trade talks, meeting new owners, and increases affiliation with the Sim Dynasty site.
Any updates on it getting fixed?

Or maybe a messenger that doesn't take 6 page views to find out you have a message and respond to it.

Let's just focus on the chat room for now, guys. Just the chat room.

Chris - Any update on the Chat Room? This was one of the best features of the site way back when. Please try to get it back up and running.

The chat room technically works, it's just that you have to set your browser security settings to an unacceptably low level to make it work due to changes in both Java and recent browsers.
In-game chat is something that has been on my "to-do" list for a while, but we'll see if we can find another solution in the meantime.

I think since todd is unacceptably low level he could set his browser that way.

Too risky. There is a growing todd999430 fanclub out there searching for me, trying to infiltrate my interwebs.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for having a "chat room" high on the list. The old chat room worked really well. I think there could be a correlation with increased SimDynasty interest and a working chatroom. Back in the good old days (before for third banning), newbies would venture into the chat room and discuss strategy in real time with veteran owners. Lemaster, for instance, shared much insight into the game for me as a young simD jedi. This was made possible by the chatroom.
The opportunity to build relationships and communicate is the key element to any web 2.0 business. The lack of a chat room is a hindrance to this advancement for SimD.
Example: Imagine three football GMs discussing SimD football in the chatroom. I'm there, listening, learning. The conversation about SimD football gets me to purchase an available dynasty-type team. This happens.
Here's my prediction: Have a working chatroom and watch sales of available teams increase. I'll bet you 10 dynasty dollars. :)

Chris, I haven't looked at the chatroom at all, so I don't know what's going on with it.
But there are plenty of Java based IRC clients that will run through a browser with no security problems, and plenty of IRC servers that will give free channels for game related chat. Then the bonus that those of us who like IRC can use our own client outside of the browser.

You know what the Chat Room encouraged? Signing up for more teams.
I would meet other GMs from various leagues, learn from them, enjoy their company, and then join their league. Trade advice, lineup advice, just a general love for Sim Dynasty.
Bring back the chat room. ASAP.

yeah, i'm going to be a bit annoying here... but update on the chat room?
I ask because it was the BEST FEATURE about Sim Dynasty.
Want to talk trade in real time? CHAT ROOM!
Want to get help from other owners in real time? CHAT ROOM!
Want to conspire with Carl to screw over a few other teams? CHAT ROOM!
And on this note, perhaps it's time for a new bulletin board format... not that it's broken... but just some attention to these little issues would give the impression that baseball sim d isn't the forgotten son.

Clearly... for at least one person... this is very important.

Do we have a timeline?
I'm being honest here: A working chatroom will increase business for Sim Dynasty.

I won't be as annoying as Todd but I agree, I played back when the chat was used a lot and it helped me and also increased my interest in the game.
Has anyone considered creating an unofficial chat room through something like Oasis or any other chatroom website?

Like I said earlier:

I've set things up like this before, it can be done pretty easily.

You should go for it Mongrel, as long as they wouldn't be opposed to us using an outside chatroom I think it would be a good idea.

It's a pretty hectic time for me work wise, although the next couple of days are slow (although I am working), and I may have some time soon.
If there's enough interest and people who would be willing to use it, I can take the time and set it up. It takes me a few hours to review IRC protocols and settings and secure a channel before I'd make it public. So I wouldn't want to do it if there's going to be like three of us using it.

I did fire up that poll if you didn't notice.
Not a ton of votes went up but everyone who has commented or voted seems to be into the idea.

Ok thanks Wilson, I posted over there.
I'll set this up once my work life slows down, which I expect should be in the next week or so.
