Merger with SAL league???

March 23, 2016 at 12:45AM View BBCode

I have been approached by Hamilton2 commish of Sandy Amoros League to see if we would be interested in merging our two leagues. I told Hamilton that I would let the league know of this merger interest to see what our interest is. There are some differences in the leagues that would have to be resolved before a merger would be possible. The two main differences are they are a private league and if we kept that option we would have to pay $35 for several seasons (5 or 6 seasons I believe) and there is no option to pay monthly and secondly they have 6 gpd and we have 9 gpd. They might agree to our subscription league payment (monthly) and they might agree to 9 gpd. I am not sure. There are some other differences also but right now I just need to get an idea of how our league members feel about possible merger to a 24 team league.
We presently have 3 teams for sale Det, TB and Minn. Det and TB have chaperones in place at this time and I have been keeping the Minn team current, i.e. deal with disable players, make sure they have at least 2 catchers and keep the minor league at 15 players to maximize their player development. I don't make trades or even mess with how their draft list is already set up.
Please make any comments about this merger request so we can determine if we need to discuss this further or tell them we are not interested.

Recently did a merger in the Eddie Murray League with the Greg Maddox league...I have to admit I'm not crazy about the idea...

I feel that there are to are to many differences between leagues which has greater possiblity of a newlymerged failing within a shorter time span than if both leagues stayed independent (however I fully understand that leagues not fully controlled by ownership of teams will be forced to close)

This league has a long past history ...and due to experiencing a merger (jbl)...i would rather try and save the lleague ( whi le in the worst scenario possibly go defunct before merging...allowing owners to freely decide)

I like 9 a day. On balance it seems we have a pretty good league

Prefer 9 per day, there are two other 6 per day leagues out there currently with 4 teams for sale (Vince Coleman and Don Newcombe) that may be a better for fit for a merger.

Instead of creating 24 team leagues, I would rather see SimD try 14 or 12 team leagues and retain the history/continuity. PNL has 6 teams that have owners who have been a loyal/paying member for years (literally calendar years - 3 are original 1950 owners). Merging to 24 is a bit short sighted, I would have no allegiance to a new league and would consider dropping my team, in the end it just becomes another hole to backfill.

I would be curious what a survey of owners would show that have merged to 24 team leagues and asked whether they prefer the 16 or 24, perhaps this is all in a thread discussion somewhere.

I might be selling off some teams due to summer and this team would probably be one of them. So, you might have 1 less owner in a few months. I'd probably sell if there were a merger. Cheers

I think I will tell Hamilton2 that we aren't considering merging at this time. I don't like 24 team leagues and I told Hamilton2 that in my early response to him when I also told him that I would present the idea to the league. To really get into serious discussions about merging with another league we would need to have a strong representation wanting to merge. If you disagree with this plan please post your opinion. Thanks
