Washington 2 Kansas City 1
Washington wins seventh straight lead AL by one game.
Washington continues to get great pitching and score just enough runs to get the job done. Brady Shelby gave up one run on seven hits walked two and struck out eight to earn the win (5-4).
Matt McGovern's lead off double to left field and an error by shortstop Tom Griner put runners on first and third. A sacrifice fly by Rico Martinez scored McGovern.
That would be all the scoring for the home team as Shelby shut down the Kansas City hitters for the rest of his outing and Larry Steinfeldt closed out this game for his 11th save.
An error also played a part for Washington in their 5th inning come back. Aaron Wilson reached on an error by left fielder Matt McGovern (dropped fly ball). Thirty two year old rookie Fran Lagassi, a long time minor leaguer, hit his first career homerun to put Washington ahead 2-1.
Lagassi said after the game, ''I hit an off speed pitch that was up and over the plate. And believe me I will never forget the moment. To contribute to the streak we are on makes me feel like more a part of the team.''

Toronto 9 Texas 6
''Make no mistake folks ... we are not done. We will play through this slide we are on and get back to where we deserve to be.''... Jim Kelly, relief pitcher Texas.
Toronto scored five runs in the 6th inning off Texas starter Dave Milllet (8.2 7 hits 6 runs (all earned) 4 walks 9 strikeouts.)
Toronto's Bill Fauver hit a two run homerun in the second inning that gave Toronto a brief 2-1 lead.
Texas came right back in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game 2-2.
Sammy Hernandez' two run double, off Doggie Ries, in the 6th inning to put Toronto up 4-2.
Jim Kelly replaced Ries but he promptly allowed singles to Lew Rivera and Karl Luvello that scored two runs. Luvell scored on a passed ball.
Pedro Baez and Joe Harshany hit solo homeruns for Texas in the 8th inning and George Oquist hit a two run shot in the ninth but Texas again came up short and went down to defeat for the fifth straight game.

You should really consider joining a pay league. I really like all of your post, they are thorough and very entertaining. It would really bring something extra to a league, if you decide to check one out, let me know and Ill give a recommendation of which one to join based on what you are looking for.

I will and thanks....I have had a little enforced layoff on game summaries due to age related illness. I am a 68 veteran of two wars, two kinds of cancer, and now, of late, have been having some fatique issues brought on by either vertigo or a developing heart condition.
Have been enjoying this league race. My guys chased down your Texans, (I live in Lubbock) but then slumped and here we go again. All my hitters were hot and then the all went cold... so that's like real baseball.
Please feel free to comment on the race. I think if its a perception of a good rivalry it would make good reading.
Will get back to work today if I can. Oh by the way, buzz is an old hero of one of our grandsons who joined the league and is playing the game with me during a visit to us this summer.

That is really cool if your grandson plays, I'm not much of a story teller so I probably won't be commenting on the games
