Molding your own players

June 03, 2003 at 09:04PM View BBCode

This might be considared a completely different game, but I'm throwing it out there. We draft our team the same way, and basically each player is given to us with a set age and ranking, same as usual. Except you can change the attributes, but not the overall ranking. For instance, if you have a pitcher with A vel and B con, you could change it to B vel and A control, or C+ vel and A+ control and whatnot. It might rob the game of some of what it is, but would also be fun.

I'll just throw all the ideas out here I can think of, good or not.

i also mean you could only change them initally, only once. and not age either.

I really don't think this would be a good idea. I like the uniqueness (is that a word?) of each given player. I think it represents real baseball rather well.

By being able to change there abilities I think you would find many managers giving there players the same stats.

i think customized players is fun to do but not so in SD in which the main difficulty is to draft good players without knowing the player pool... you basically tell the scouts what to look for and trust them completely.

being able to customizing the players will make drafting meaningless.

Well not big fan of draft

Sorry - my biggest complaint is I cannot tell my scouts not to draft a RP in top 10 picks. RP do not pitch to their ratings in this sim and taking one over a similary rated player kills your team - especially high.

I am hoping Tyson's next major enhancement is to draft.

It is. I'll be starting the preliminary work next week.

I like the idea of molding your own players ... but not directly and NOT easily. Think of training them over many years, and through this training they get molded.

Of course they have dispositions or talents in certain areas and they quickly gain skill levels in those areas, if they are trained in them, while others, they just have a hard time with.

You can also take it a step further, and based on their training you can create 'icon' like exaggerations of their ever changing physique as they age :). That could go hand in hand with changes to the user interface.
