The New England Patriots have placed cornerback Ty Law on IR. He joins fellow starting corner Tyrone Poole on the inactive list for the rest of the season. Richard Seymour has also been banged up and it is questionable as to whether he will play next week. It appears that they will play Indianapolis who is in the process of routing the Broncos again. With Law and Poole on IR this means that Samuel and Brown will be the starting corners. I seriously doubt that Assante Samuel and Troy Brown, a wide receiver, will be able to shut down Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne. Seymour is the Pats best lineman and without him their pass rush will be diminished giving Peyton Manning more time to pick apart the depleted secondary and creating more running lanes for Edge. I dont care how porous the Colts defense is, I think they will upset New England next week.January 09, 2005 at 08:14PM View formatted

The starting corners will most likely be Samuel and rookie Randall Gay.(who has come out of nowhere to have a great season). In certain situations they will put FS Eugene Wilson at corner and play Dexter Ried in Wilsons spot.January 09, 2005 at 08:22PM View BBCode
Hmmm... that may be true but this is another case where the rule change regarding receivers could also come into play. Last year the New England secondary mugged Colts receivers quite a few times and Ty Law came up with three picks. Now there is no law and the secondary will need to keep their hands to themselves. And if Peyton Manning and his receivers can shred a secondary that features John Lynch and Champ Bailey they can certainly handle Randall Gay, Assante Samuel, and Troy Brown. It will be close but I think that Indy could come out on top. The weather will be a huge factor though. If it snows or something crazy like that than all bets are off.January 09, 2005 at 08:25PM View BBCode
