Jets - Steelers

January 15, 2005 at 08:45PM View BBCode

What's everyone's opinion on this game? No Abraham for the Jets and Pennington coming off the flu. The Vegas line is Steelers -8.5, O/U 38.

I still don't have that certain respect for the Steelers, however I think they win this game. The Jets hardly ever get blown out, but without Abraham to put enough pressure on Roethlisberger, I don't see them hanging in here.

Final prediction -> Steelers 24, Jets 14

The Steeler will just be too tough to beat at home. Martin will have to have a huge game for the Jets to win this one. The inly other way is if Pennington slings it for 2 quick TDs' and Rothlesberger has to play catch up

I think the Steelers will win, in a very close game, probably will have to score real late to take the lead.

I picked Pitt by 13 but that looks like a dumb pick now. It's 10-10 at the half and Roethlisberger has STRUGGLED. The Jets didn't have John Abraham in the first game and Roethlisberger did not play well then either up until the fourth quarter. Burress didn't play in the first game and has been nonexistent in this game so far. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Jets pull it out. They need to get the ball into Santana Moss' hands in the open field (he may be the most dangerous open field runner in football) and use that to loosen up the running lanes for Martin. Mix in Jordan occasionally but don't listen to what that moron Simms said about getting Jordan in there more often. Jordan is a more explosive back than Martin but Martin is much much more consistent. Jordan will get a 20 yard carry and follow that up with a few carries for minimal yardage where Martin will give you atleast 4-5 quality yards on almost every play. This game resembles the first game a lot and it will be very interesting to see who comes out on top.

85 yd INT return for a TD by Reggie Tongue. Ummm, where the hell was Ben throwing that?

Huge play by Tongue. He threw that right to Tongue. Where the hell were all the Steelers on that runback? That was wide open for him.

There's only 1 rookie QB in the history of the NFL to win a playoff game (Shaun King in 1999). There have been probably 15-20 others who tried and failed. Roethlesberger has some work to do if he wants to be #2.

I picked the Jets to win by a few points in the OT pick em thread about 5 days ago, only one other person picked them out of about 20 people :). Go JETS!!!

I notice Pennington has thrown numerous quick out passes to his recievers. But the strategy doesnt seem to be working to well.

Steelers win, Brien looks like a real a-hole right about now.

What a choke job by Brien. The Jets just seemed to run out of gas also. Too bad I feel for them(except for the kicker)

The defense did seem to cave in a bit at the end but who wouldn't at that point. I mean 3 of their last four games (including this Pitt game) have been on the west coast, their last three games have not only gone into overtime but lasted until the end of the first overtime quarter, they just flew across the country twice, and they had to defend Duce Staley and Jerome Bettis for five quarters which would wear anybody down. Oh and not to mention the emotions that they all must have been going through after Brien missing the first attempt then getting another shot with the interception and then missing that one too. Neither of those field goals were gimmes but the Jets should have won that game. I'm alittle disappointed. I didn't expect the Jets to win, actually I thought that they would get blown out but in some ways it seems that it would have been better to get blown out than to be so close but be unable to seal the deal. But that was a tremendous game nonetheless. Very, very entertaining. Now I have to go start my "Kill Doug Brien Association..."

That was a pretty bad call on 3rd and 10. Believe it or not Chad Pennington actually CAN throw deep. From 21+ yards he was the highest rated quarterback this season with a rating of 122. And with Santana Moss who could probably beat just about anybody in the NFL in a foot race and Justin McCarreins who is a pretty good possesion receiver, he does have some targets to throw to.

Boy, the Steelers got lucky in that one. Condolences to Jets fans. Hopefully Ben got the rookie jitters out of the way in that one - he's #2, Tyson. The competition won't get any lighter from here out.

What usually happens on this kind of play is that a few WRs go deep, but they are covered well, so the QB dumps it off to a guy short of the marker cause hed rather get better field position that throw an incomplete or interception trying to throw to well-covered guys beyond the marker.

I agree that I would have rather lost by 21 than miss two game-winning field goals. Damn !
