AFC Championship NE@PITT

January 17, 2005 at 01:55AM View BBCode

This should be a great game with 2 good defenses' and running games. It will most likely come down to turnovers and with a rookie QB at the helm for Pittsburgh I give NE the edge

I like NE in this game (yick... I hate to say that). Dillon didn't play in the first game and he should give the league's best defense all they can handle. The Jets proved that Roethlisberger can be exposed and it is uncertain how he will handle the nerves. If Richard Seymour doesn't play I could see PITT pulling this out but I think NE will win by a FG.

The Pats have to be the favorite.

Yay. Another Super Bowl for Bill Belichick and the Patriots. GROWN MEN DON'T WEAR SWEATSHIRTS TO WORK!

What do you think the line will be on this game? Will Vegas really favor a road team that got beat in the regular season against this team?

Pats win by a TD. Belichek (or however you spell his name) will make Roethlisberger wish he was back in College.

I wear the same sweatshirt to work 3 nights out of 5. Then again, I'm a sports writer, which makes me anything but a grown man.

I think it will be a very small spread... maybe 2 pts or less in favor of New England.

I've heard that Vegas automatically give 3 points to the mone team and then goes from there. I see this game as a pick 'em

Yes, of course. A rookie QB, that's worth a touchdown right there. Add up the fact that you have the defending champs, coming off a decisive victory against the team that a lot of people considered the favorites going in, versus a team that essentially came out of nowhere this year and only won their game this week because of a couple of missed field goals. The Steelers looked terrible against a Jets team that isn't anywhere near the Pats level. The Patriots should be the favorites on the road, and personally I wouldn't take the Steelers for less than about 6 or 7.

well at least the Pats are starting to get a little respect from you guys.

Hey, in the NFL all teams have the same amount of money to work with, so there's no buying championships, a la Steinbrenner, so this is much more enjoyable and the Pats should be a lot more liked than the Yankees.

They are, in much the same way that explosive diarrhea is more liked than the flesh-eating virus.

Call me crazy...

Steelers are going to ride into the Super Bowl on the back of a rookie quarterback.

I still don't see how Miami upset the Patriots late in the season with Tom Brady in at QB. Let's see if my luck swings in favor of the Steelers next weekend.

2 good defenses, good running games, and overrated quarterbacks.

I agree with the goat. Roethlesburger has gotten through his rookie collapse already. We all saw him suck against the Jets. I believe he will get over that and the Steelers will win a close one, maybe with a FG at the end of regulation.
The Patriots sure responded to being an "underdog in their own stadium". I think the Steelers will respond in much the same way.

The early line on this game is New England by 3. I'll see that and raise it 3 more. Big Ben has not looked like the same QB the last 3 games. I believe NE's defense will force him into mistakes - mistakes that Brady does not make and NE will win by 6.

As much as I hate to say it, I don't see the Pats losing this. I hope they do, but I just don't see it. Considering how the Jets D handled the Steelers, I see demolition by the Pats.

Yeah, the Pats could make this one look easy, but that Steeler D is pretty damn tough.

Many people seem to consider Corey Dillion to be the key to this game, as when the Pats lost to the Steelers this season, Dillion didn't play. Well, I looked up Dillion's stats versus the Steelers, a team his is very familar with over his career.

In the 13 career games, Dillion's averages versus the Steelers:
17 rushes
69 rushing yards
8 receiving yards
0.4 TDs per game.

In those 13 games, Dillion went over 100 yards only twice. One game Dilllion rushed for 99, so I'd even be willing to spot him an extra yard. So, 3 career 100 games. The Steelers' personel have changed over the years, granted, but Cowher is the constant, so the schemes of the defense are still the same.

So, I can't reasonably expect Dillion to have an amazing game versus the Steelers. Granted, he has had a career year, but I still tend to towards just flipping a coin and making a pick.

So, I go with the Steelers, by 3. This'll be a very interesting game to watch. Hopefully, more interesting than Indy vs. NE.
