NFL Draft

March 28, 2005 at 06:52PM View BBCode

Any thoughts on the NFL draft? ESPN mentioned today that the 49ers might trade the first pick to San Diego for Phillip Rivers, giving San Diego 3 first round picks. That would make sense for both teams. I feel bad for all of the teams picking early as there are no Michael Vick types that are can't miss players. The only player who seems like a sure fire star is Braylon Edwards and he's projected to go 4th to the Bears.

Also, there are tons of running backs out there. There are the three first round picks (Benson, Brown, Williams), Edge, Shaun Alexander, Travis Henry, Ricky Williams might retrun, etc. It will be interesting to see where everyone ends up.

I'm hoping that Fabian Washington (speedy cornerback from Nebraska) is available when the Patriots pick at our standard draft position, #32. Knowing the Pats, they'll probably draft another defensive lineman with that pick. No complaints here though, all of their moves seem to work.

The Rivers to SF trade seems pretty even although if I were the Niners I'd ask for a bit more in return. Don't forget about Mike Williams. Sure he hasn't played in a year but the guy is a stud. He too will be a fantastic player.

The running back situation is interesting. Either Brown, Williams or Benson could be the first back taken. The Williams-Brown scenario is very interesting because they are teammates and very equal. Everybody has a different opinion on who is the better back.

I saw the Pats taking a corner in all of the projections that I have seen. I don't think that it was Washington though but I'm not sure.

I'm hoping that Heath Miller (TE) falls to the Jets. I have heard numerous conflicting reports about him. One report had him as a top ten pick, one had him ending up with the Jets, and one had him out of the first round. If he falls to them they need to take him. By all accounts he is Todd Heap-like.

The Pats will take either a LB, CB or O-LIne depending on who is the best value at that point. I wouldn't rule out a WR if there is a nice one sitting there. I think they would love to get Clayton

I would have to say mike williams is a sure thing. You can quote me on that.

I don't know if the 49ers will need more than Rivers. He's better than Alex Smith and Aaron Rodgers. If Rivers was in the draft this year, he'd go #1, no question. Who would San Diego take at #1? They have a running back already so I'm guessing they'd go with Braylon Edwards.
