kinda sad when your team is winning and you get kicked out of the game because you did not agree with balls and strikes! well look at what carlos zambrano had to say to the home plate umpire for opening day in chicago!
CHICAGO -- Carlos Zambrano wants to apologize.
The Chicago Cubs pitcher said Friday he was sorry he told home plate umpire Dale Scott that he needed glasses, a remark which prompted Scott to eject Zambrano from Monday's season opener in Arizona.
Zambrano didn't expect to be suspended or fined for the incident.
"Why would I have a penalty? I didn't say anything bad to him," Zambrano said. "I didn't say a bad word to him. I said he needed glasses."
Some might find that insulting.
"I do apologize to every umpire, especially to him," Zambrano said. "I know that during that game when I came out I was a little bit excited. I'm a human just like him. I apologize to him. ... When you sit down and come into the clubhouse, you put in your mind that you made a mistake."
Zambrano said Cubs manager Dusty Baker didn't talk to him about the comment.
"I know I did something wrong," Zambrano said.
how sad is that. you get kicked out of the game on opening day.

RE: Zambrano
Having umpired up through the summer college league level, I'd have to say that Dale Scott needs to grow a little thicker skin. If a guy cusses you, you throw him out. If he suggest that perhaps your parents weren't married, or that you are the son of a female dog, you throw him out. But suggesting that you need glasses? You learn to deal with that one when you're umpiring ten-year olds.
One of the things I've noticed over the past 10-15 years is how combative and confrontational umpires have become. Used to be they went out of their way to avoid an argument, walked away and left managers, coaches or players standing there looking silly. Then if they came after you, you tossed them. Now they stand toe to toe and give it right back. IMO that's just plain wrong.
My approach, especially with college/summer league coaches, was to simply ask: "You know I'm not changing the call, so, are you going to yell for awhile to make your point, or are you going to stay out here till I throw you out?" Generally that's all it takes.
Managers, coaches, and players know where the line is. Usually when they cross it, they know they're doing it, and they do it to make a point, or fire up their team. If Zambrano crossed any line by suggesting Scott's vision may not be 20/20, then Scott...not Zambrano...needs to take a serious look at where he's drawing the line.

I'm 100% with lvnwrth. Throwing him out for something like that is stupid. Playing baseball in front of tens of thousands of people is bound to make you intense, especially on opening day. A comment so mild should not have resulted in an ejection, period. I also agree that umpires have become much more confrontational, and I can only think it has something to do with the way they've been criticized in recent years, and all the pressure they've come under from the powers that be. In their defense, though, let's not forget that by the rules, arguing balls and strikes is an automatic ejection--a rule overlooked by 100% of umpires 99% of the time.

i agree with you guys to that was a dumd reason to be ejected! maybe the guy does where glasses lol! i think umpries are so used to having people come at them that they are used to just kicking them out. and arguing balls and strikes is an automatic ejection it isint like the umpire is going to say you know you are right it is a ball! so i do agree that was an unfair thing to do but it is also stupid to agrue something that wont change!

I just want to see an ump tell Zambrano "nice pitch" after getting taken deep.
Not to defend the ump or anything but I don't think we should be giving free passes for back talk. I know the players are human, and therefore emotional, and this was certainly not something to throw a guy out of a game for (if Carlos is telling the whole truth), but in a perfect world all the players would accept the umps calls (good or bad) and let the managers take care of anything that needs to be said.
