today mark prior of the cubs came off the dl for his first start. he went 6 scoreless innings only giving up 4 hits and struk out 6. he also batted 2/3. is this great start (win) for prior comeing off the dl a sign for good things to come from there future star or will be blow it in his next start?

Hopefully. Its at least good that he managed to do that well in his first start back, but the biggest thing is making sure he stays healthy the whole season.

okay i dont know about that. prior is young and is only going to get better!

Yeah, of course because you know he is at the prime age for improvement chances and if the Cubs pitch the crap out of him this season he will get a crap load of IC's and will convert a good percentage of them. No this isn't SimD so being young doesn't mean that you will only get better. Not to mention that Prior has had arm problems already in his young career so there is a chance that he could get WORSE. He could just be a bust prospect or he could be the next Cy Young winner. That's the beauty of real life, there is no code like in SimD and everything isn't a sure thing.
Oh and by the way Jake Peavy is one of if not the best young pitchers in baseball. Since the Allstar break last year he has been insanely good and he is atleast as young if not younger than Prior (I'm not sure exactly how old he is). Peavy has been picked by a lot of people to win the NL Cy Young this year and possibly lead the Padres to the playoffs.

Peavy pitches in an extreme pitchers park, which inflates his stats (he is still good though, but I wouldn't say he's better than healthy Prior yet).

I think this is the start of Prior being on the right track, he isn't as hard-headed as Kerry Wood and actually listens when someone tries to coach him...Also, skierdude mentioned Prior could win the next Cy Young or be a bust prospect. But to be fair the same goes for Peavy. He has yet to throw over 200 innings but he has thrown slightly more innings than Prior has over the course of his career. Honestly they both have tremendous talent and potential but nothing is a sure thing. The only thing that I like about Peavy alittle more than Prior is that he hasn't had all the arm issues that Prior has had. Even if Prior has what it takes mentally there is the chance that his arm could let him down eventually. But again there is just as good a chance that these guys win the Cy Young this year as there is that they both self destruct. But when evaluating a young player one has to remember the Johann Santana's of the world as well as the Rick Ankiel's.

Prospect was probably the wrong term to use but Prior is not a seasoned vet either. Only in one of his three full major league seasons has he thrown over 200 innings and in the other two seasons he barely eclipsed the 100 inning mark. Combined that with the injuries there is a fair possibility that he could become a bust.But to be fair the same goes for Peavy.
