Gold?!?

Not sure if there are too many Marquette fans out there, but I am from Milwaukee and will take in a Marquette basketball game from time to time. The big debate here for years was changing their nickname from Warriors to Golden Eagles. With all the outside pressure to change it back to Warriors the trustees finally agreed to meet regarding a possible name change. They did change it, but not back to Warriors, they changed it to Gold. Marquette Gold?!?!? Like I said I am not a big fan but how dumb is that name and how could a group of trustees actually come up with something that ridiculous? How embarrassing.

I'm already hearing of thousands of complaints by precious metals about the new name.
Maybe they should just call themselves the Marquette Student-Athletes. Well... no... that offends my intelligence.

The name change was required because of all the birds offended by the use of the name Golden Eagles.I'm already hearing of thousands of complaints by precious metals about the new name.

I heard Golden Showers was considered but thought to be too esoteric.

The name Gold sucks butt! Of course the big point was "everybody is naming themselves after colors. Look at the Orange." I know many of the board members wanted "golden showers" but that was after they picked the team name. I am enjoying telling my buddies to "Stay golden. Pony Boy"...Its bad but you might get it... I personal plan to boycot all the Golds games next year...Of course I am moving in a month or so but none the less I intend to take more golden showers in honor of the name that could have been...

Hey, it's a better name than 'Heat". I love my alma matter, perhaps I'll return someday to coach there, or, cough, finish my senior year.

Harvard would be ticked. Harvard Crimson is a cool name though.
