Cardinals Padres Series

October 05, 2005 at 01:51PM View BBCode

I really think this one is obviously no question. The cards had the best record in the majors and the Padres got 82 wins. The cards will sweep unless the Padres get lucky and get one.

To be honest, San Diego won their divison with no competition. See what happens when Bonds goes on the DL. But really though, the Padres are once again outmatched, and the redbirds are looking to get back to the world series. This contest is so lopsided it's unfair.

Worthless teams often beat good ones. The Devil Rays owned the Yankees this year, for example.

Losing Peavy for the rest of the postseason will hurt the Pads a lot. Obviously St. Louis should close the deal but in a best of three (or best of four for that matter) crazy things can happen.

Poltergeist.

Don't hit "Post Reply" twice. Just hit it once and wait.

That never happens to your brother. Must be operator error.

The Pads are done. They are so bad, they should have just given the Cards a bye, and sent the Pads home. Or just given the Phillies the Padres spot in the playoffs. No team from the NL West deserves to be in the playoffs.

Yeah, best of 5, my bad.

And Foliage, don't forget that the game isn't played on paper... Yes, it's true that the Pads are by far the worst team in the playoffs and the Cards are probably the strongest out of both leagues, but as ME pointed out a bad team can beat a good team (like the Devil Rays owning the Yanks this year).

True skier. But who made the playoffs. The Yanks or DRays.

Devil Rays?

The Yanks because over a larger sample size the better team will perform better, but in a best of 5 a team's true ability (or lack of ability) may not bear itself out.

Yeah I think that might be it FG, but my brother usually uses the other comp anyway.

Don't count the Pads out for sure but especially with Peavy gone I really think the Cards have this one. But its not over til its over.

Pads continue to underwhelm. I guess this is where they come to life, ala 2004 BoSox, and get the Cards with the old "back end sweep". As if that will really happen. Should have let the Phillies in.

If the Pads win this it would be as unlikely as a team coming down from 3-0 in the ALCS....

You know you've been depressed about that trade for a really long time...

I rest my case. Padres suck. Maybe they'll win 83 games next season, and miss the playoffs because the Giants will have Barry for 100 games or so, and win 84 games.

It kinda amazes me that the NLCS winners from both 2001 and 2002 came from the NL west (D-backs and Giants).
