Milton Bradley?

Please no. The Yanks are supposedly considering aquring Milton Bradley. If they do this I will be extremely upset. Newsday had a list of reasons of why the Yankees should not aquire him.
http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/yankees/ny-sphey094504928nov09,0,2477842.column?coll=ny-sports-headlines
"Among other very bad deeds, Bradley sped away from a speeding ticket, was jailed for yelling at a police officer, was questioned about three domestic disputes at his house last summer (his new bride had a bloody lip one time), was suspended for throwing a bottle at the feet of fans, called a reporter an "Uncle Tom," engaged in a feud with teammate Jeff Kent (that one may be defensible) and spit gum at an umpire. And he's only 27, which only means plenty of time for many more blowups and meltdowns."

You're like a child who wanders into a movie, demanding to know...
Your entire opinion about Milton Bradley comes from this article. Seeing that the media has replaced covering sports with covering Terrell Owens, somebody had the great idea to write about Milton Bradley, who has had incidents in the past. Compare the following set of numbers:
2003 .321 / .421 / .501 10 hr 17 sb
2004 .267 / .362 / .424 19 hr 15 sb
2005 .290 / .350 / .484 (half a season due to injury)
2003 .263 / .367 / .411
2004 .262 / .360 /.435
2005 .249 / .321 /.367
The top is Bradley, the bottom is Bernie Williams. Bradley can also play defense, and is the perfect option for the Yankees, costing probably under 5 million a year, desperately needing a new chance and a change of scenery, and keeping Cano and Wang in the Bronx.

Well actually I didn't hear what we were giving for him, but I did not get my opinion entirely from that article I know he's been in trouble and is a hothead and I just don't want someone like that coming to the Yankees. I would rather get someone else to play center that's not Bernie or him, I'm bor sure who I want yet, but Bradley is not the one.

He's only 27, which means he's still young, and worth a contract. Many, many players start their careers marred by controversy, blowup, and media attention. Two that you are familar with are Ruben Sierra and Gary Sheffield. And who better to calm Bradley down than the calmest man in the game, Joe Torre?
He's not a free agent, but he's in his last year of arbitration eligibility, a stretch in a player's career where trades (or long-term deals) are common.

He could be acquired via trade for next to nothing. Bradley's temper is somewhat of a red flag, but he's young, talented, and as Smocko said can play defense.
The other options in center are as follows:
- Torii Hunter (via trade): he will cost atleast Cano and Wang and may not be available at all.
- Vernon Wells (via trade): his career OBP is .330 and has only surpassed .350 in a full season once. He's defense is average at best and his price tag will likely be pretty high if he is even available
- Juan Pierre (via trade): Less expensive than the other too but he put up a career low .326 OBP (horrible for a leadoff man) and has no power to speak of. Slap hitting speedsters tend to decline sooner and more rapidly than other players as well. And remember the last left handed, slap hitting, speedster they signed? Oh what was his name? Oh yeah, Tony Womack... yeah that worked out well.
- Johnny Damon (via free agency): Will have to outbid the Red Sox for him. Wants a long term, big money deal. Is the oldest of the bunch so far at age 32. His arm strength could actually be worse than Bernie Williams'. And the general consensus is that he doesn't have much left in the tank.
- Bernie Williams (via free agency): Isn't this why they need a new CF in the first place? Bernie has been a great player over the course of his career but his days as a starter are over. I'd love to see him back as a reserve outfielder/backup DH though, but this clearly isn't the answer.
- Bubba Crosby: No expense here but the guy just doesn't have the skills to start everyday. He's a decent reserve outfielder/pinch runner/defensive replacement, but that is the extent of his value.
- Melky Cabrera (via promotion from the minors): Didn't they try this experiment already? Didn't it fail miserably? Maybe in the future Cabrera may be able to make it as an everyday player, but not now.
- Milton Bradley (via trade or free agency if non-tendered): His trade value is extremely low right now and the Dodgers just want to get rid of him. So a marginal prospect is all it would take to get him. Smocko posted the numbers above and they are very good. The excerpt from the article you posted fails to realize that at only 27 years of age there is a chance that he may, you know, mature and learn to harness his tremendous talent. Joe Torre is no pushover either (unlike some of Bradley's former managers) and who knows maybe Torre can talk some sense into him.

I understand what your saying and maybe Torre can calm him down but here's another option for you. Move Matsui to centerfield and sign Manny to play left. It might not be the best defensive move you can do but it is another option.

Uhh yeah... To "sign" Manny we would first have to trade for him and though there were Gary Sheffield for Manny Ramirez rumors a while ago that appears to be dead. Secondly, just because Matsui played center on an everyday basis in Japan doesn't mean that he can here. Japanese ballparks are significantly smaller than American ballparks and Yankee Stadium has one of the more spacious centerfields in the league. Then there is the issue of attitude. You don't want Bradley because of his attitude, but Manny is just as moody. It just isn't as overhyped because he is an established superstar. And lastly, a Ramirez-Matsui-Sheffield trio could be the most range limited outfield in history.

I'mn not sure if your being sarcastic or not YAS but Smocko, posting something stupid is what I'm known for on the boards. I couldn't ruin that reputation now could I?

He's been a lot better recently, but suggesting that the Yankees 'sign' Manny Ramirez is a pretty dumb thing to say..... oh and it really is a cool website that I linked to.
No hard feelings, yankeekid, you're already way more interesting than your brother. :)

Reports out of the LA Times is Bradley has more value at the GM meetings than once thought. I'd doubt a marginal prospect could get it done. Some report said the Dodgers were interested in Pavano, but I have no idea how credible that is (I'm gessing it isn't)
Bradley does have a hot head and anger issue, but he is considered to be a good teammate (just don't ask Kent) and he plays with immense heart and all the things LAers loved LoDuca for. He also pays a lot of money to charities. As a Dodger fan, I could care less about his off field antics, it's something else that scares me...his health.

LA has a hole at 3b that could be filled by Eric Duncan, one of the Yankees' top prospects...

Jeff Kent is hardly the definition of a good teammate so you can't lay too much blame on Bradley for that one...

The Dodgers have Laroche, who is closer to the majors (at least he can actually hit at AA). Not that the Dodgers wouldn't take him to give to another team

I think if a team like the Yankees gets Bradley, it can't hurt them. They don't have a budget, and will get him for next to nothing. Just like when they had Canseco to block him going to the Red Sox, Torre can just bench the guy if he doesn't like him. They always have the money to go get more guys.
As for contraversy, the guy will find it. He's not sane, but that town needs something like that. Hell, Bonds found a way to play under the 'eye' of hatred. Milton is a very good, and underrated player. Somebody to take a little heat of of A-Rod would be good. I think it's a little late for that team to try to worry about chemistry.
The White Sox had Carl Everett, and he's a checkered past, hot-heat. At the end of the year, he was all pissed off about moving down in the lineup. But, the team had a REAL manager(like Torre is), who had control of the team. You didn't read any bad quotes from Crazy Carl, but all the reporters were saying it was obvious he was fuming, but they couldn't egg it out of him. I think Torre can handle Bradly, and if he can't, that team can afford to just dump him.

Gary Sheffield and Dwight Gooden say hi, both fitting the role of troubled past, hothead, or both. Would Bradley's antics really be that bad compared to the likes of a porn addict (Matsui), admitted juicer (Giambi), all around pain in the ass (Sheff), hothead (K.Brown), illegal poker player (ARod), and an overrated SS who likes to stay out late and party (jeter). I think Bradley could fit right in with this club.

Why not pursue Griffey from the Reds. They're gonna have to move one of their outfielders before next season.
