Roster sheets

December 14, 2001 at 05:58PM View BBCode

Quick impression -- it would really help to somehow have more of each player's particulars (speed, power, contact etc.) show up on the basic roster sheet. With the limited amount available now, it's very hard to compare the players you've got without constantly clicking back and forth, writing numbers down etc. Since we're dealing with fictional players, there's no base of knowledge to start from, so it takes a lot of mental processing to gauge a team's strengths and weaknesses, your best speed and power guys, best lineup, platoon necessities etc. If those numbers were all presented on the basic sheet, you could quickly do some comparisons.

putting the lineup together was a bit of a pain - in the end I just did it sort of randomly

Yep, it's not very simple to put together your lineup. Every players stats and skills is a must IMO.

I agree with all the above posts

It is hard to determine lineups and also hard to determine who to trade/place on waivers/pick up from waivers. There appears to be enough room on the roster screens for additional columns. Another nice feature would be printable rosters and player stats.

I hear you, loud and clear. Its not that difficult to set up.... I'll see what I can do this week about this, providing more information about players on all pages.

Another thought along these lines -- the roster page for the hitters includes their total rank, but for pitchers it does not. Again, a helpful column for quick reference, and I presume reasonably easy to add.

Rosters Redux

I have to agree with the other posts that commented on the difficult roster interface. Most folks are probably used to, as I am, a single web page that has all of your teams players with some of their rudimentary stats that will allow you to determine who to play and who to bench.

I would definetly combine the lefty and righty batting splits into a single page and allow folks the option (if you can) to start a regular lineup for the three game series (three different lineups) or a righty/lefty option. I am sure some ballplayers would benefit from a spot start, or rest.....

I actually had it this way initially during development. But the page was really difficult to manage because there were so many drop downs on it. It also ate up a lot of memory and would cause my entire website to crash! So I got rid of it, and I hope its for the best.

It would be cool though to be able to set your lineup by game instead of by Pitcher faced. Would other people be interested in this and use it? I don't think I would use it, I'm like Mike Hargrove (The Human Rain Delay), pick your starters and let them play every day.

I suppose it depends if you have eight / nine bats that you can count on every day - my initial lineup was so riddled with poor hitters, I think I had to play 13-14 guys regularly depending on the lefty / righty pitching opponent.

I know when its especially difficult, when you are making adjustments to between your major and minor league teams, right? What if I put something on there that would show if they are a starter, would that help some?

The issue would then be, "what constitutes a starter?" The real challenge is getting all the information one would need to make daily roster decisions - the backside, or downside would be that the user interface is so unfriendly that folks give up after a week or two....

Another roster sheet glitch -- I don't recall if this was the case before, but when calling up my roster to set a lineup vs. lefties, the ratings that come up are vs. righties (same as when setting the lineup vs. righties). Would seem appropriate to at least have the relevant ones for the pitcher in question available at a glance.

Amendment to that last message. It appears that the ratings are correct -- but the headings are wrong, reading Contact vs. R and Power vs. R.

HC - thanks I fixed this.

Go Cubs - I'm thinking that I would like to know who is a starter when submitting trades, and promoting guys and demoting guys. When I say starter, I mean in your batting lineup. All pitchers are in effect starters because they could pitch everyday. It kind of sucks when your doing the promote/demote especially because you find a guy in the minors you want to call up, but don't know who you can "afford" to send down. And since I can't remember anyones names, it only compounds the problem!
