NFL Head Coach Game

July 13, 2006 at 07:13AM View BBCode

I've been playing it for a few days, with mixed reviews (PC version).

I picked it up initially because I'm more of the "Franchise" madden guy, who enjoys drafting and building teams over the long run...kind of like, errr...simdynasty

First of all, the game has a tedious interface, and is very monotonous. Typically, each day in the calendar year contains 4 or so events "practices, sign players, scout players, meetings, etc...", which I have had limited success simulating by. In each practice, you get 10 reps, of any play you choose. However, in order to establish a "money play", which will be effective on gameday, you need to practice it around 8 times, sometimes more. It's the same thing over and over, and since you're not actually playing, it gets quite boring. Unfortunately, when you simulate and pass the task on to your coordinators.

Other than a great soundtrack, I can't really think of anything good to say about it, except that it's somehow really fun. At the very least, it'll tide me over until Madden comes out

I didn't bother with this game. Its the first version, so it was a given it would be pretty boring and relatively mediocre. It does have potential as a series, though.

And NCAA 2007 has been coming out slowly because people messed up, but officially comes out the 18th. Yay. I wish I had an XBox 360, though.

I can't wait for NCAA to hit shelves.

On topic, I purchased this game as well, 1-1 in preseason so far. Other than the same points which you stated I like the game.

I'm starting to get concerned that the game is too easy. I never saw a difficulty setting.

I'm playing as the niners, and drafted Reggie Bush.

Alex Smith and Bush are leading the league in passing and rushing, respectively. My defense is top-5. The niners were a terrible team, and they're now a 9-2 powerhouse. Little difficult to believe...

How did you manage to get Bush with the Niners pick. Who went ahead of him?

He wasn't rated all that great. He started out at 78 but now he's 92.

Hawk went first, Williams 2nd, Leinart third, Vernon Davis fourth, and then a defensive end that must have been made up. I got bush 6

He went up 14 points in about two thirds of a season? Jebus. Thats probably worse than Madden 2005, where Joey Harrington was actually above average after the first half of the season.

youre just a HaLL of Fame coach, face it, when you touch something, it becomes a winner...I know its hard to accept that you are up there with the likes of Vince Lombardi and Don Shula but the harsh reality is that you will have to learn to live with your greatness...

NCAA is better, I have it for PS2 so I didn't get the massive graphics upgrade, but they improved a lot of little things about the game. I almost lost to Houston with Texas in a warmup dynasty after beating Ohio State, which was odd.

I can't wait to get it. What are the best improvements over 06?

It pisses me off that they don't make NCAA for the PC.

They don't? Shit...that was my plan.

My PS2 is on it's last legs, and I don't want to invest anything more in it.

For whatever reason, EA Sports has never ported its college games to the PC.

I have always been upset by this myself. NCAA Football might be the greatest time waister ever.
