Who is ready to put their skills to the test??

October 21, 2003 at 07:40PM View BBCode

The ultimate simdynasty league is about to get rolling!! To do it I need 16 owners! That's right 16 as I am not playing, just moderating.

I am looking for 16 owners that think they have or know what it takes to win championships.

Why you ask? Cause this is a PRIZE LEAGUE

1st Prize goes to the winner of the most championships.

There will be a second place prize, just haven't figured out what it will be awarded for.

Amatuer Drafts will be LIVE and there will be a lottery for all non playoff teams. Can't have anyone tanking to get dominant on the league. Also, you can't blame Tyson for a bad draft this way;)

Now, for the costs. Of course you have to pay Tyson the custom fee of $40.

Then there is a prize entry fee. This varies depending on what you guys want to play for.

The next few post will include the prize fee and what you will be playing for at that price.

This will definitely be the most active league as there is the most reward. I hope you guys are interested!!

I would vote for $40-75 for a prize fee. The lower the better as far as attracting owners. We might need to look around even more to find the best deals on some cool prizes.

Have you put any thought into the requirements for second place? Second most WS wins, or something else?

Idea's for second place:

1 - 2nd most World Series wins
2 - Most World Series Appearances
3 - Most playoff appearances
4 - Highest winning percentage (entire dynasty period)

Sounds intreging. Will there be any additional rules? Also how will the draft lottery be done?

I haven't set up an exact lottery system but I will definitely make that information available. Some other rules:

Aug. 31 trade deadline
Playoff rosters frozen except for pitcher injury
Bottom 8/Top 8 Waiver claims after amateur draft

May add more later.

Good luck with this -- it sounds interesting. One thing you probably want to consider is how you will handle unbalanced trades. Will they only be overturned if there is evidence of collusion? If so, who decides? Or, do other owners have the right to overturn trades that they feel are unbalanced. If so, how will that system work? Since there are prizes at stake here, it is likely people will be particularly sensitive to unbalanced trades, even if they are made in good faith. I think it would save you grief in the long run if you addressed this issue right up front.

Sounds interesting...keep me posted

Mark me down for Boston or Chicago (NL), and keep me posted on development...make the prize a Clemens jersey for sure, I'm down for that.

This league sounds cool, but The years could get long. Especially at the end. Championships are a great thing but if your team is not in contention it would kill any incentive to finish out a season and trying too win. Just an idea, But I would think that a point system something like what NASCAR uses would work. That way owners would always be active.

To reply to Bob, swerve is not playing and he is the moderator; In other leagues with him I totally trust word.

If the prize money does not get too cazy, I would like in.:D

Just a couple thoughts

October 23, 2003 at 02:57PM View BBCode

How and when would the "Prize Money" be paid? And if it is not collected initially, someone may not be too quick to pay if they have no chance of winning after 3-5 seasons of play...

Also, who "holds" the prize money or the prizes? Moderator? Tyson?

Shipping and insurance charges for the prizes included in the prize fee?

How about third place? Free Sim Dynasty Team?

Interesting point kaliayev. That may be something to consider. With the more interested people we get these are things that can be discussed.

As for the cost, that is why there are choices so the league can decide what cost they are willing to play for.

As for the prize money it is paid upfront. The money is paid to me and yes it includes all delivery and insurance fees.

Swerve, I think this is a great idea, but it will take a while to find enough owners. Also, I think most prize prices are too high for most owners. You should probably stick with maybe $25 or so and just buy gift certificates for the prize winners to some sports memorabilia store. That way if they hate the Yankees/Cubs/Mets, whatever, they have the option of skipping a Clemens or Kiner item and taking what would make them happy. $25 each is still $400, which could be split $300/$100 and still yield some very nice prizes.

I think whoever came up with the Nascar points system might be on to something. Perhaps award ten points to first place each season, 9 to second, then skip down to 6-1 for the rest of each league (non playoff qualifiers get a little less than the top two). Also maybe give an extra point or two for winning major awards - cy young, mvp, fireman, roy? That could be interesting and fair enough to keep all owners in the running. Even if you finish fourth or fifth a couple of years you could stay near the top by winning some awards.

As far as collecting the money, no matter who the founder/moderator is, there will be people uncomfortable. Perhaps you could see if Tyson would collect the money and order the prizes? Most owners would probably feel comfortable with that.

Just kicking some ideas around.

put me down for the Washington franchise, Im up for whatever fee you guys decide on. Sounds fun, I like idea of rewarding total overall wins as well as world series and division series wins maybe as a bonus. Awarding wins will also keep teams from giving up and trying to play all young guys for a few years and be more believable. Point system sounds best to me.

maybe 1 point for every regular season win, 40 bonus points for winning your league championship and 60 bonus points for winning the world series, those arent scientific just putting out some ideas, rewarding wins in the regular season is important and will keep the league more believable, Im sure everyone has seen teams do big firesales, trade away many many good veterans for a team entirely of 21 year olds, and suck for 4 or 5 years then be great for a few then suck again, just my thoughts, keep us posted as soon as official sign ups begin. I got tabs on Washington if its not too early for that... ha ha.

Biggest problem i see is the "live draft" hard to get 16 guys together via internet all at same time, plus work restraints , family obligations , I see this as big problem, maybe something could work out like doing 5 picks a day or something , over a couple of days with the option of changing draft preferences round by round...not sure really what is the best option here, just seems kind of crazy organizing everyone online at same time...:)

The only reason I have the live draft option is to keep Tyson's neck out of the loop. We can scrap it though if everyone can agree not to hold Tyson accountable for bad draft picks.
