Mike Mathewson Must Die
October 09, 2002 at 04:20AM View BBCode
I had it all.
My wife loved me. My dog was a good and faithful friend. My neighbors always had plenty of cold Budweiser in their fridge. And most of all, my Goats had a 4 game lead on the hated Bums.
Then, I ran into... HIM. Brooklyn righthander Mike Mathewson (a former Goat, by the way). You might know that he's currently 15 - 0. What you probably don't realize is, 4 of those wins have come against my Goats. One for each series the Goats and Bums have played. 4 games- the number of games between the Goats and Brooklyn.
When I traded Mathewson for young phenom Buster Foster- it seemed like a great idea. I was rebuilding and here was a kid (Foster) who's likely to be as good or better than Mathewson (which he will- have you seen this kid?) We traded Foster and got my All-Star RBI machine, Danny Fisher. It all seemed so clear, before the darkness set in. Before... HIM.
Apparently, Mathewson holds a grudge. "Trading me", he screamed, "is a mistake you'll never forget!" I never dreamed how right he would be.
Now, my Goats have faded, 4 games behind Brooklyn. Unable to score runs, giving up big innings, dropping easy fly balls. You'd never know these are the same guys who started the season 14 - 0.
We were on a roll- until we ran into... HIM.
Now, my wife has left me. My dog growls because I keep forgetting to feed him. My neighbors, well, let's just say I've had to learn to love Schlitz Malt Liquor.
The answer is simple.
Mike Mathewson must die...

Well that's a fine way to start the day -- having one of your best pitchers receive a death threat! Mike's not intimidated by your threats -- us Brooklyn folks have a few friends in the, er... waste management business... that will have a little chat with you.
Seriously, Rick, that's a damn funny post -- it made me laugh before I even had my first cup of coffee (and I can barely speak without caffeine). No offense, but I hope that Mike continues to pound on your Goats on the way to his second Cy Young award. My streak of NL crowns has to end some day and your team worries me. I'm hoping that Mr. Matthewson can pitch me to another title. Good luck.

Thanks for the kind words, but "scary" doesn't apply to my Goats the past 30 games or so. We're falling faster than Bill Clinton's pants.
My ace, Pete Alexander has lost 5 or 6 in a row, and my slugging 3B has had 1 RBI in 21 games.
The difference between ET and a Goat baserunner on 3rd? ET goes home.
In the meantime, I'm looking for some offense. If anybody's interested, see my post titled "Offense needed: NOW"...

MATHEWSON IN HIDING- GOATS TAKE 2 OF 3

St. Louis Goats Owner/GM/Manager Rick O'Shea claimed victory last night, as the St. Louis Goats won 2 of their recent 3 game series in Brooklyn.
"Apparently Mike Mathewson's in hiding. I'm not saying he's a coward, but it's amazing what a few death tthreats and bomb scares can do to a guy."
Although O'Shea denies any involvement, rumors have it that D-Train Dave, a well-known Hobo in the Brooklyn area, was found dead on Mathewson's doorstep with a note stapled to his forehead. The note reportedly read, "Pitch against St. Louis and YOU'LL be the next dead bum..."
Meanwhile, Brooklyn still maintains a strong 5 game lead over St. Louis in the National League standings.
"Hey, I'm not saying we're responsible," said O'Shea, "but if Brooklyn doesn't lose a few games soon, they should probably start having a dog taste their food."

MATHEWSON STRIKES BACK

Yes folks he's back. The Kilroy-like pitcher has left his mark against the Chicago Untouchables, this time with a CG win. The only run scored was manufactured by ROY shoe-in Al Kaline.
19-year old Walter "Big Train" Johnson had this to say, "When grow up... I'm gonna kill him, nevermind the fact he'll be 40 something. I'm just gonna kill him."
(He is now accepting payment to cover the cost of the men with the white violin cases...)
