Hey, the Cubbies made a move and brought in Derrick Lee.... A pretty good move, I always like to see a guy brought in who can play some defense, hit some homers, and steal a few bases. Not a bad move at all, considering all they had to give up was Hee Seop Choi.....
Now I'm sure all the Choi fans will come out of the woodwork, but let me go on the record and say....good move!!!

Hee Sop Choi is good in ASB 2004 but in real life he sucks. He blew a couple games for the Cubs and Derrick Lee is great defensively. Good move.

I still think Choi can become a pretty damn good player. He has a ton of talent, and a change of scenery will probably help him.
That being said, I think Garret Anderson owes Derrek Lee something for stealing his rightfully-earned title. For years Anderson has been labeled the "most underrated player" by the media, but the person who deserves that title is Derrek Lee. He doesn't hit for a great average, but he does pretty much everything else well: he has good power, takes a bunch of walks, can steal bases and plays a mean 1st base. This is a really excellent pick up for the Cubs, and truly gives them the second (or third, depending on Corey Patterson) bat they desperately needed. I think right now they have to be considered the favorite to repeat in the NL Central.

Isn't that an oxymoron though? Just acknowledging them as underrated shows that you see their real talent. But I do agree with you that Derrick Lee is probably the most underrated player in baseball.

I think this is a very good move, but only if it isn't the only one they make in the off-season.
Lee is right at the age when it all starts coming together for most guys with any staying power. He's been a solid .275 hitter for the last four seasons and only getting better. He does strike out a little more than you want, but his home runs and stolen bases are very welcome.
So welcome to Chicago, Derrek Lee, win here and you become immortal, not a bad deal huh?:D

this is a great move for the cubs, lee isnt gonna win any batting crowns but he is a guy that will hit in the up near .290 and can be a 30-30 guy. he is also a big firstbasemen with speed and a glove. definetly will sure up the defense and will give sosa alittle help in the middle of the order and can create runs, or atleast scoring chances by stealing a base. could work out good for the marlins too, depending on how choi turns out.

is great if you want a guy who can't get on base, has decent power and dogs it in the field.
He has to hit .300 to be a useful player.
