Which baseball owner is the worst?

December 10, 2003 at 03:45PM View BBCode

The title says it all...
Which baseball owner needs to have his team forceably taken away from him?
No, needs to be repeatedly slapped about the face and body with large open-mouthed basses while having his team forceably taken away from him?
:puzzled:

MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL-Montreal Expos

FYI
I picked Peter Angelos, what a jerk that guy is.
Close second, to me, is Jeffrey Loria. Sure, the Marlins won the series, but Loria inherited that team. He bought the team in a sweetheart deal from the league after selling out the Expos and all of Montreal. Let's not forget how he eviserated that great Expos team of the past. He is still a bad one unless he proves me wrong by trying to keep this Marlins team together. Losing Pudge would be a mistake...

I actually like MLB with the Expos. Sure they need to sell the team to a real owner, but instead to folding they have been creative in trying to revive intrest in the team, so they get a C or C-, mostly for letting Vlad go. I blame Loria for the team being bad as long as it has before...

2 things, first Bud selig doesnt own the brewers, he officially sold it to his daughter or something. second, MLB owning a team is like the government buying a company. this government will ineveitably have way too much politics involved when picking the place for the next team, and if they had left it up to the market to decide who got the team it wouldve gone to DC a while ago

the split schedule and not moving the team yet makes MLB the worst owner.

result: they can't resign the franchise's greatest player ever.

if they were in DC, Vlad would still be there, and probably nomar would be going to DC.

DC is the obvious choice, and I blame Angelos for the fact it has yet to happen.
But to be honest, I love the idea of the Expos going to Puerto Rico permenently.
What a great way to open up the league to another country, but it'll probably never happen.

let me put it this way, who are the best owners in the game? i would have to say 1. george steinbrenner and 2. john henry. those guys both wanna win and arent in it for a profit. and yea u could blame my steinbrenner argument on yankee bias but he always is trying to win.

puerto rico would have horrid flight times. anymore puerto rico to seattle flights would officially destroy the expos. monterrey, mexico would be a better choice. it has money, it actually is another country and it is more or less easier to fly from. MLB as a owner is better than no owner. as long as the dodgers have no owner, they cant make any huge off season deals.

Monterrey would work just as well, just as long as they are forward thinking about it. I don't think Washington is the right way to go, and Portland leaves me cold, South of the border just makes the most sense.

Seems it's a tight race between Tribune and Angelos, but where's the hate for Selig?

we have had the expos new location conversation before. i pointed out that the washington metropolitan area is the 4th largest market in america behind NY (2 teams) LA (essentially 2 teams) and Chicago (2 teams) that means the largest market that doesnt have 2 teams has NO teams. people say "hey no one ever went to the senators games" well that is not totally true, AND they NEVER had a good team. Mexico is a dumb choice. there isnt money there, just there is more money there. also, who wants to live in mexico?

i don't think angelos is the worst.

he had bad GMs (partially his fault for hiring them), and wasted the money he had to spend (Belle, Erickson, Will Clark, Segui, etc.), than didn't want to spend at all cause he got too cautious from the bad deals. at least he was willing to spend at one point, and might be willing to again. not a good owner, but i don't think he can be considered the worst.

the tigers record should make them a unanimous choice, plus they can never re-sign anyone and cant get any decent free agents. they have screwed detroit.

And you know the worst thing about the Tigers? The owner of the tigers is the same owner of the Red Wings, one of the most successful franchises in sports, so you know that he could do something right if he wanted, sad...

1}mariners are a washington team[funny how no one knows that]
2}be quiet skier. It's really annoying how your always defending george. even when he isn't being attacked
3}detroit's owner is horrible, most of the money he makes[especially from the lux. tax]. He just annoys me.
