Dan Reeves is first coach fired

December 10, 2003 at 02:18PM View BBCode

I thought they would wait until the end of the season.
But no, Dan Reeves is out, and the defensive coach, Wade Philips?, is replacing him.
Do you think that's too harsh? Dan Reeves was a good coach who caught a bad break with Vick being out most the season, is this fair?

It's a moronic move. The only reason the Falcons sucked this year was because Vick was out. It wasn't Reeves fault. But good coaches on bad teams are fired all the time. Jim Fassell of the Giants will probably get canned despite the fact that 4 of his offensive linemen were rookies(hence the horrible offense). Doc Rivers in basketball is another example. They fire the managers because they're morons, simple as that.

It's too bad, being a coach in the NFL has to be one of the most stressful jobs in the world. You just cannnot tell when you will get fired or not. Your team underachieves, it's the coaches fault.
You make the playoffs three years in a row but never make the super bowl, you could be canned. A year after a super bowl appearance means nothing right now.
Dan Reeves is a quality coach, hopefully he'll get another job elsewhere, if he still wants to coach. It's a different world out there in football, much different than his salad days in Denver. I remember a couple of seasons back when Vick was a rookie and not getting much playing time. Vick had a big group of people, friends and family, in the stands who would boo and curse Reeves constantly because he wasn't playing Vick every second. I know I would be yelling back after a while, but Dan kept his cool. Vick's backers even tried picking a fight with Chris Chandler because he was starter at the time, shameful.

It was ridiculous. I mean give me a break, he took a shitty team and put all his stock in Vick, then brought them to the playoffs and became the only team to ever beat Green Bay in Lambeau during the playoffs. Ever, I mean in the history of the NFL.

I'll be honest, Vick is that franchise, and without them, they're nothing, as proved this year. But, he comes back and beats Carolina, a playoff team, in his first game back.

Reeves got hosed. I'd take Reeves in NE as our offensive or defensive coordinator. I have a feeling Weis or Crennel is going to get hired somewhere.

With Dan gone it is totally and completely Michael Vick's team, the new coach had better walk on eggshells or he'll be gone just as quick.

Here's a thought...
I bet the Falcons go after Dennis Green as coach after the season.
How perfect a fit would that be?
Can anyone else think of a better coach for that team with a player like Vick, I can't.

Charlie Weis.

He's great at weird plays and he'd have a field day picking apart defenses if he had Vick.

i really feel bad for dan reeves. mike vick is that entire franchise so without him they were lucky to be 2-10. i think that the main reason that he wuz fired wuz bcuz of him and vick arguing over when vick should come back. i believe that vick knows his body best so i think it shoud have been his decision but i cant blame reeves for rushing him considering the pressure he wuz under by the upper management. and obviously vick is the golden boy to that franchise so anything vick says goes and if anyone, including a coach, goes against him than the upper management will decide in vick's favor.

It's hard to argue against Vick having that kind of clout, the man is 6-7 wins a season by himself, that is an MVP amoung MVP's. If Vick plays like he has for just 4 more seasons he'd be a HOF QB, he's that good.

There are a couple college coaches that the Falcons should take a look at with Nick Saban (LSU) as the frontrunner.

However I'd prefer a young assistant coach with NFL experience.

What coach do you think will get fired next?

I think Callahan is gone before the end of the season, I promise.

But I've been wrong before, he's just the obvious choice right now.
Who else could it be...
Jim Fassel or Gregg Williams are on seats of pure magma right now they're so hot, so maybe them...

actually after watching the bills this whole season i have seen major improvement in the team over the last couple games, i actually dont know right now what to do, because if we get rid of greg williams what will happen to our amazing defense? i dont know who does the defesne greg williams or dick lebeau, but they are doing one hell of a job, i wouldnt care too much if greg got fired just as long as Kevin Gilbride is GONE! the worst offensive coordinator in NFL history. if greg williams got fired i wouldnt mind Dick LeBeau becoming the coach, or Dennis Green, Charlie Weis, or maybe even Tom Coughlin<-- i dont know how to spell his last name, but all i know is the Bills defense is somehow 2nd in the league, i thought they would be first by now, but now all this talk about the bills drafting a DE to improve the D even more just excites me, personally i say if Mike Williams or Larry Fitzgerald goes into the draft trade up for one of them! and i think Mike Williams is the best propect in the draft he reminds me of a Terrell Owens and Larry Fitzgerald reminds me of a Laveranues Coles. went a little off-topic there

Every year, just before the NFL season, I make picks of which teams will make the playoffs and which one will win it all. I've been doing it for years for fun, and here's how I picked before the season started.
NFC
Division winnners
Green Bay
Tampa Bay
Philadelphia
San Francisco
Wild Cards
St Louis
Washington
AFC
Division winners
Pittsburgh
Buffalo
Denver
Indianapolis
Wild cards
Tennessee
Oakland
Super Bowl
Buffalo vs. St Louis
Buffalo wins

damn parity....
