they arent the whole league. id rather tampa's zambrano, gonzalez, waechter over the yanks or bo sox's rotations. they are young and have good careers ahead of them. the other teams have old guys that wont last more than 2-3 years. javier vazquez is an exception. of course by the time tampa's rotation is matured, the yanks and sox will have bought a different rotation

Their top three guys will beat the yankees top three guys and the yankees final 2 will beat bostons final 2 thus putting the series 3-2. Then of course pedro will lose to the yankees because of a giambi walk off grand slam that wins it by 1. Finally schillin will come in and pitch a perfect game for 8 innings untill the yanks tie it in the ninth with two outsand push it into extras. There boston's new manager will make the fatal mistake of bringing in derek lowe who's horrible in relief ussually and he'll give up a walk off to sheffield. The boston fans will again wonder why the bambino comes to boston-newyork games and not tedd williams. I'll be wondering why i chose the wrong new york team to cheer for.

boston. they have a great first 4 starters and their bullpen which was already solid just added one of the best relievers around in baseball.

the redsox already had a solid bullpen? we are basing this on last season right? i agree that keith foulke is good but they will probably deal scott williamson now which will weaken them. im happy to say that the yanks bullpen doesnt consist of righthanded setup men named juan acevedo and antonio osuna. felix heredia pitched great for the yanks since they claimed him off waivers gabe white wuz good too and is close to resigning. chris hammond will probably be traded, i wouldnt expect too much for him but hey they got kevin brown for jeff weaver so anything is possible. the problem with boston is that they have pedro and schillling who were both injured last year. u cant expect more than 180 innings from pedro. kevin brown is a question mark too. if he is healthy than he is better than andy pettitte and/or roger clemens (u pick) but that is assuming he is healthy. javier vazquez is a work horse so i expect good things from him. now it comes down to lowe and mussina, id give mussina a slight edge bcuz he is an experienced starter, lowe has been a starter for the passed two years but has shown inconsistency. remember when he wuz their closer, he had a great year his first year as a closer but his next year he got the armando benitez treatment and wuz booed of the mound. some ppl say that contreras will be better than him, that all depends on which contreras shows up, the pre allstar break contreras or the post allstar break contreras. i would definetly take contreras over wakefield. now it comes down to lieber and who? burkett? suppan? john lieber is a question mark since he was out last year. if he pitches like he did when he won 20 for the cubs though it will be great. and of course there is boomer wells too. i remember when they signed him 2 years ago they only expected him to be around .500 and win about 10. he won 19. last year he won 15. i know hes 40 so im not expecting alot out of him but if the minor league deal between him and the yanks gets done than they he will be forced to be in shape by spring training and could be a stopper if someone falters. and steve karsay is coming back. the yanks setup core looks like this now: karsay, gordon, quantrill, and heredia and possibly white, compared to wut they had last season at opening day, antonio osuna, chris hammond, juan acevedo, and basically fill in the blank, that is a tremendous improvement. and of course there is the sandman to come into the ninth and if he pitches like he did in the playoffs look out. now the sox have embree, timlin, williamson (for now), mendoza and foulke which is pretty good but i would give the edge to the yanks.

o and i didnt include the O's bcuz they havent made any improvements to their staff yet. i didnt include the d-rays cuz they havent proven themselves, and i didnt include the jays cuz i dont picture them as a contender although they may surprise ppl. but if u really think that one of those teams has a better staff than write it in.

Yankees. Yankees are always better than the Red Sox. Martinez is the best pitcher in the game but can't go more than 200 innings, if that. Don't know what to expect from Lowe and Wakefield. Schilling and Brown both have injury concerns. Front end- Red Sox have a slight advatage, but Yankees are much deeper. Jon Lieber, David Wells, Jose Contreras; I'd take them over Wakefield, Burkett and the fill-in #6 starter anyday.
