i say they take the yankees out of the al and place them into their own 'yankee league.' then the winner of the world series plays the yankees. that way the al doesnt have the same team doesnt appear in the playoffs every year. also the yankees wouldnt have to play any regular season games. i know the idea is really stupid but i want tampa bay, toronto, and baltimore to have a chance to at least reach the playoffs. as long as the yanks can buy the best players in baseball, they wont lose unless several bus accidents occur

Look, we all know it's not as simple as buying a team. Any Yankees' fan will tell you that and they're right. Lots of teams have tried to buy a championship and failed. The Yankees win because they continue to sign the RIGHT players. That said, when you have more money than most everyone else, your ability to sign the right players is greatly enhanced. To put it bluntly, a GM in Minneapolis could be ten times as smart as the one in NY and still not win, because when the push comes to the shove he just can't pay the players the money they want.
Like it or not, Yankees' fans, that gives your team an unfair advantage over most of the other teams in the league. And though we cheer Boston as the "underdog," they have a similar advantage to Toronto and Tampa Bay (omitting Baltimore, which has money and no concept of how to spend it). We're not asking for the Yankees to be broken up, or contracted, or anything else stupid. We're just asking them to use the same kind of recourses to build their team that everyone else does. But I guess when you win every year that gets to sounding like a pretty stupid idea.

Watching one team win every year is pathetically boring. The only thing that's worse is watching one team win in the regular season every year and then bungle it in the playoffs. I'm a lifelong Yankee fan, but Duff77 is right. It is boring. While you can't simply buy a championship (*cough* Mets *cough*), spending tons of money allows you to cover up your mistakes better. If the Twins spend a lot on a free agent and the player turn out to be a bust, they simply can't recover from that mistake. They have no room for error. You can compete with a $50 million payroll, but everything has to play out perfectly. The Yankees on the other hand can screw up time and again and just go out and get another player. They still have to get the right players at some point, but they have the luxury of making a few mistakes along the way. This absolutely gives the Yankees and unfair advantage and it does lead to boring baseball. I would be all for a hard salary cap that puts all teams on a level playing field. Unfortunately, that isn't going to happen anytime soon.

how about this idea? we take the yankees, all their players AND fans (i will use this term loosly) and put them on a rocket ship and send them into the sun.

i agree that baseball needs a salary cap, but i think that sports need favorites. i mean look at the post season this year, especially the LCS. yankees-redsox, yanks are the favorites but the rivalry made that matchup great. cubs-marlins, the lovable losers (no offense cubs fans) vs. the miracle marlins. and then go back to the division series, u had the A's and redsox and the david vs goliath matchup with the yanks and twins. the yankees also lead the league in road attendance last year so obviously they dont hurt the game. and out of all the teams that have spent a ton of money on payroll in all sports the yankees are the only team that has been sucessful. the rangers have the highest payroll in hockey but cant win a game, the mets had one of the highest payrolls in baseball and cant win, and the knicks just spend money stupidly.

oakland? they arent gonna win the card. Hudson, Zito, Mulder, Harden, and Duchscherer will be good but they have a crappy bullpen and not a single player on the team can hit a beach ball with a tennis racket. dye who is their best hitter has been in a lot of trade talks and he could continue to suck if he's not healthy. they signed barrett and immediately traded him so melhuse will be full time which wont help.

As per usual, the only team that can challenge the Yankees in the AL East is the Red Sox, and this year they may do it. The Sox gained Schilling while the Yankees lost Clemens. That makes a big difference. But just like this year, I don't see any team in baseball being particularly dominaint. There's a reason why the Cubs and Marlins got as far as they did--every team has significant problems, even the best ones. But for the Yankees, the guy to watch is Matsui. I expect him to break out big time next year. I think he had an awesome season for a guy who had never seen any American pitchers...not even the American STYLE of pitching. I say he puts up big numbers this year.

They may still win the west, but that's only because Seattle and Anahiem don't seem to have a grip on things either. the yanks lost clemens but gained vazquez. and they also lost pettitte but gained brown, id rather have pettitte though. they also gained jon lieber. and they sured up the bullpen. it will be a dog fight though but i dont see the yankees being weakened this offseason, i think that they are stronger now.

I got a stupid idea for this thread.How about we round up all the 'Neu-Yawker' Yankee fans, have them tagged and released into the wild. Then they could be hunted, predator style, by disgruntled fans of the Orioles, Red Sox, Blue Jays, hell everybody!:D

Chavez (has got the potential to be MVP) and Dye (who I think is getting paid twice as much as anyone on the team) need to produce for anything to happen with the A's.

i may be wrong but i think oakland has decent attendence. the problem as i recall is the owner is a cheap ass. i cant remember what, but i was really disappointed when i saw Network Associates Coliseum, and i could see the stadium driving away fans

the stadium driving away fans? everyone brings this stadium thing in, i ask, who the hell goes to a baseball game for the scenery? i didnt even notice that you could see the city of baltimore out centerfield in orioles stadium until a couple years ago, because i didnt really care.

Wrigley is one hell of a stadium but I would tear it down anyday for a Cubs World Series.

I was really saddened to see them take out the outfield blenchers and "grassy stuff" out past the CF fence in favor of the infamously dubbed "Mt. Davis". I had grown up with that scenery back there and missed it when I was gone. Though Cubsfan is right, I would tear it down again for an A's WS ring.

Maybe cubs fans are too attached to Wrigley, most years the Tribune company uses our loyalty to the stadium against us. Not having to field a competitive team because we dumb fans will show up anyway.
If Wrigley were lost (i.e:Earthquake, tornado, act of Gawd...) should it be rebuilt as close to the original as possible, or entirely new?

Yea, I think most fans would make that trade.Maybe cubs fans are too attached to Wrigley, most years the Tribune company uses our loyalty to the stadium against us. Not having to field a competitive team because we dumb fans will show up anyway.

If God smites all Cubs fans and causes Wrigley to fall I think they should try to rebuild it as much like the original as possible, except maybe with more seats.Pages: 1 2
