Eh, I don't care for rookie awards, so i'll skip those...
MVP:Tom Brady
It's a tough, tough call. But I got to go with the main man on a team that has no one else that anyone knows. Brady led this team better than any other player.
Defensive MVP:Ray Lewis
Of course it's Ray Lewis! But Jamal Lewis shouldn't be MVP, regardless of his season. There were too many great rushing seasons this year, as a result, it'll weaken the case for any runnning back getting the MVP. Most people voting these awards will think that both the running backs are great, and there is a lot less good defense being played this year. If Jamal was one of few really good backs this year he'd have a chance, but I STILL put Clinton, Ahmad AND Ladainian before Jamal Lewis.
See, even though I'm a Bears fan, I didn't put Urlacher for D MVP...:P

Can't put Portis above Jamal cause Portis has a great O-line (look what the backup RBs did to the Colts). Lewis has a good one (very good left side bad right side), but has had no QB all year, so he faces 8 on very play, yet rushes for 2000. Can't pick Brady for MVP, he's there cause his team has a great defense, not because he is good. That's like Tejada in baseball, good but not great player who's team is good because of pitching.

it is like McNabb in football. he is good, but people think he carries the team when really he just keeps the offense alive while the defense plays great. anyway, MVP goes to Stephen Davis. he truly does carry the entire offense.

Oh well, it does matter because Peyton will win it in the end. The voters love gaudy numbers, and his are the gaudiest of any of the contenders this year.

Lewis's 2000 yards hopefully will get him the MVP. easier to get 4000 yards passing than 2000 yards rushing. steven davis shouldn't get the award because he is a crappier (but still good version) of lewis, a power back on a team with a bad QB and a really good defense.

oh yes, Anquan Boldin should be a lock for offensive RoY, he was third in the NFL in receving with 1377 yards (behind Torry Holt and Randy Moss), and did it with Jeff Blake and Cade McNown as his QBs, for the worthless Cardinals.

stephen davis is cool, Lewis is cool. you know SC said named someone else they would vote for MVP other than Lewis and Brady, and i cant remember who.

The MVP vote is close for first, it'll be either Manning or Brady, Lewis will be second. Breaking records usually doesn't mean instant MVP award. Jamal was good but lets not get carried away, without the Browns he wouldn't have been that close to breaking the record.

other good defensive rookie is Terrell Suggs. Boldin won the offensive rookie award. If Brady was on the Browns he would suck, cause he isn't that good in the first place, and he wouldnt have a great defense getting his team a lot of wins.

right, Manning. that is who it was. anyway, saying stuff like "if it werent for the browns, he wouldnt have gotten the record" is kinda stupid. there are always certain teams that cant stop the run or the pass or whatever, and you can get a lot of yards against them. im sure Dickerson had a couple of huge games against some incredibly bad against the run defenses too.

anyway, how about priest holmes, he did set the record for rushing touchdowns, and total touchdowns

Hey, that's the truth of it. Lewis gets to play the Browns twice, and no one did as well against them running as Jamal did. Not to take anything away from Lewis, he had a great season, but the record wouldn't have been close without the Browns...

Touchdowns are an incredibly overrated stat and don't mean much (if you have a lot it means you aer a good goal-line back, and not much else. crappy goal-line only backs will get a lot of TDs but not much else)

yeah, but the point is that there is always going to be SOME team that you played really good against because they have crappy run defense.

mvp- steve mcnair, the guy carries his team. he has no running game, and a mediocre defense. besides that he plays and plays well on cracked bone spurs and pulled calf muscles or wutever it wuz.

offensive player of the year- jamal lewis, only the 5th back to ever rush for 2,000 and came about 40 yards shy of the record. he also did it with a rookie qb and anthony wright and no wideouts.

defensive player of the year- ray lewis, who else.

offensive rookie- anquan boldin, he set the rookie record for catches and did it with jeff blake and josh mccown at qb.

defensive rookie- either terrence newman or terrell suggs i dont really know.

it takes a real skitsophranic (no clue how to spell that) to take someone different for offensive MVP than for total MVP. anyway, McNair has a good defense behind him, and he has not been the best player this season, in fact, probably only the third best QB.

My only problem with Jamal Lewis as MVP is when people say he had 2000 yards plus and that's why he should get the award.
Don't vote for him just because of that, make it because he carried his team into the playoffs with a crappy QB, but not because of 2000 yards! Cleveland had a run defense that was rare in how bad it was, not everyday to teams get a team like that. Vote Lewis because he had even 1500 yards with the offense they got, i'd be just as impressed. No passing attack and you still manage that many yards? Impressive. But him getting 2000 plus was right place, right time...

January 02, 2004 at 08:10PM View BBCode

obviously if cleveland is a rare amount of badness, then there is some other team that has the run stopping talent that the browns dont have. you could say that him being on a team with good run stopping defense was good for him. assuming that the run stopping talent is equal every year, if one team is considerably bad, then the other teams are better. anyway, carrying his team and all that stuff is like the stupid baseball MVP. if Jamal Lewis rushed for 10,000 yards, and averaged 10 yards a carry, but his team still lost every game of the season because his defense couldnt stop anyone, should he not be nominated for the MVP?

No!
10,000 yards are not enough!
No MVP!!

*sigh*
Look, he's good, top 5 in voting for MVP, but he's not the very best. He's one of many, and a good QB trumps a good RB, EVERY time! :P

January 02, 2004 at 10:51PM View BBCode

so you give it to a QB every time? also i disagree about the QB beats RB thing. good teams have good RBs. QBs are nothing without a good O line and at leaast decent WRs. RBs can do it on their own if they have at least a decent O line. I would bet Peyton Manning would look a little less impressive if he didnt have Marvolous Marvin to throw it to.

mvp and player of the year r two different things. we talked about this like ten trillion times. mvp = most valuble player and without mcnair that team is no where. offensive player of the year i interpret as the guy that put up the best offensive stats, and just stats alone. that wuz jamal lewis. i picked mcnair for mvp for his leadership, ability to win the big game and toughness. the guy is always hurts but still comes out and gives 110% and usually plays well and wins. manning hasnt won a playoff game yet, mcnair came 1 yard away from a superbowl ring.

oh, MVP!!! so from the way you interpret MVP, I choose Samuels, LT for the Redskins. we wouldve never gotten such a good draft pick without him:rolleyes:

well considering that he cant play a down without committing a false start then no. mvp is a leader who plays through pain and gives u 110% and puts up good numbers. aka steve mcnair.
