Best Movie Trilogy All-Time

December 31, 2003 at 05:27PM View BBCode

The next logical post.
I'm torn between Star Wars and the Lord of the Rings, absolutely torn to the very soul, but I'm leaning to giving Star Wars best movie trilogy and LOTR best book trilogy. Opinions?

Shaft should have been a trilogy, both makings of that movie were so good. Anyway of real trilogies probably the Godfather because I haven't seen LOTR or star wars (and have no desire to).

amazing, matrix 2 and 3 sucked so much that matrix didnt make the list.

anyway, best movie ive ever seen that was in a trilogy was Army of Darkness (matrix second) Godfather 1 and 2 were great, but the third one sucked as much as 2 and 3 of matrix. LOTR i havent seen the third one, but i heard all 3 were good. Star wars is way better than lord of the rings.

THE GODFATHER. the first two are considered two of all time. most people consider part 1 to be the best movie ever and some consider part 2 to be the 2nd best ever. the third was pretty mediocre but with the first two being so great it makes up for that. it definetly has to be the godfather.

It's probably too soon to be objective about LOTR, you need a few years distance to be able to assess it properly in the sense of where it ranks all time.
But from where I stand now, only the Star Wars trilogy gives it a run for the crown. I'm looking at it from singularity of vision and consistancy of tone. A good trilogy should be seamless from movie to movie, in order to create a rich tapestry that consumes your imagination.
Godfather 3 was completely unnesessary and should never have been made. In terms of best movie and one sequel ever it would be the Star Wars 4 and 5, then Godfather, but G3 was SO bad that it destroys it for consideration of best ever trilogy.
Star Wars is a great, great trilogy that seems to never age. Kids today would be engrossed in it upon seeing it for the first time, just like we all were, or most of us (you really haven't seen it Cubsfan?? wow) But Return of the Jedi wasn't a very good film, don't be afraid, you can admit it!
While it wasn't a debacle, hardly, on its own its pretty watchable, but it pales considerably when measured against the previous two.
My vote went to LOTR because the hardest movie to do in a trilogy is the last one, and its the only trilogy I can think of where the best really was saved for last!

lotr is basically one really, really long story split up into 3 parts. the first one cannot stand alone, the story is not finished. In most trilogies, the first movie is made to stand alone, if it is very successful than sequels will be made. lotr is not a true "trilogy", it is more of one 9 hour story than 3 3 hour stories.

I saw part of one but I hate that sort of Sci Fi stuff. I usually like movies that are at least on earth.

maybe im alittle bias bcuz im a huge al pacino fan and bcuz i loved godfather part one and part two but i didnt think that part three wuz THAT bad. part one is definetly the best ever and i think that part two is the third best ever, atleast out of wut i have seen. scarface is probably my pick for second best ever but the godfather part one is definetly the best movie ever.

i say again, the best movie IN a trilogy was Army of Darkness. no other movie from a trilogy can get close. star wars 6 was great, i dont know what you are talking about. lets just act like star wars 1 and 2 never happened. if you act like godfather 3 never happened, then it wouldnt be a trilogy.

also i agree with ME, LOTR isnt really a true trilogy. Matrix was kind of. the first movie stood on its own, in fact i didnt understand why there needed to be a second one, but the second one didnt stand on its own.

trilogies are supposed to have at least 2 endings, and preferably 3. the second one is generally very hard to make into an ending, but should be at least stopped at a good stopping point.

im not pretending that part three never happened i just think that u have to of the greatest movies ever and one that wuz sub par. that shouldnt bring down the entire trilogy. i think that it is better than star wars and i have no desire to see LOTR and the other movies arent as good as the godfather imo.

id say i agree that godfather, even with the third one is at least close if not better than LOTR and Star Wars (although i dont think better) but 2 best movies of all time? no way.

someone really likes mafia movies. they are very good, but best of all time? try kill bill, Donnie Darko, any Monty Python, some other movies i cant remember right now.

FOR BEST OF ALL TIME. ur saying kill bill is a better movie than the godfather!? im not sure if i should be laughing or crying. :puzzled: lets see senseless violence or the story of a war hero's transformation into a ruthless mob boss. hmmm... thats difficult. jeez thats like saying barney goes to preschool is better than the matrix. i like mafia movies but i also like a lot of other movies. i have found that most of the best movies i have seen have been mafia movies though. my top five movies would have to be:
1. the godfather part 1
2. scarface (the al pacino one, i havent seen the 1932 one)
3. the godfather part 2

Ok im a little late in this post because I have been away.

Best Movie Trilogy....

Godfather...If your a starwars fan then Starwars would be second.

Movies that are classics and movies that keep you guessing to the end are always the best. For me, besides mafia movies, my favorites are those that keep you guessing untill the end. Psycological Thrillers. Identity, Bone Collector, for me The Usual Suspects was one of my favorites. For movies like starwars which interest certain people are reasonably predictably. When you watched the movie you knew Luke Skywalker would win in the end. Which brings me to another observation. How come when we watch a movie(My example will be Speed with Keanu Reeves) and even though we know they will make it we still are on the edge of our seats. Like when the bus is jumping the gap in the freeway I was nervous. I was worried they wouldnt make it. I felt scared for an actor and a situation that is not even real and that I already knew the outcome. Why is that?
